Land of beautiful women...

Snazzy fashion sense...

And wild street parties.

Nothing will happen.

If things get annoying enough, the Ayatollah'll close the universities (again) drive out out the monied intellectuals (again) and damage their own economy for ANOTHER decade. The government generally doesn't 'disappear' people, but they're certainly not above jailing someone for long enough to shut them up, using plenty of fully legal bullshit religious charges.

Hell, the clothing most of those protesters are wearing was pretty damned illegal less than a decade ago and the state of undress of some of those women is nothing short of shocking - time for a clawback!

Hey, why troll only foreigners? The greatest trolls troll even themselves.

FYI, the election was an absolute JOKE. Not because it was or wasn't fair.

That's utterly irrelevant. Window dressing. The president is a mouthpeice with no real power. A cartoon jester dangling on strings. Hell, they gave Khatami two terms and he didn't do a damn thing. Why do you think I find Ahmedinjad so funny? Don't expect the least bit of progress until the Theocracy's grip begins to slip. And it's ANYBODY guess as to how many decades that could take.

The election probably wasn't rigged, because Khameni didn't need to rig it. His power is functionally absolute and fully legal.

Counts have been this way and that way. Some say they simply flipped the results.

Nothing will happen.

Was thinking the same, until shit started hitting the fan beyond lightspeed after day one. Now? Everything is primed, and the numbers are growing.

The full blown incorporation of twitter, facebook, and texting by the opposition has sent the leadership into a helpless loop. They can't control all avenues of communication like before, despite their initial attempts.

This isn't just about the position of President anymore. Hasn't been for a day or two now.

Remember how in Metal Gear, America's elections are a sham, an orchestra composed by the la-something-something-something-lo, and the president is just a mouthpiece for a larger more secretive organization,

Well that's the case over there.  While things may progress here and there, it's a social snail's pace compared to the fun and games we have out here.  There's a reason why the persians are flooding west, and not vice-versa..

Somewhere between IM and Arc on this one.  Something will happen, but on the grand scheme of things it won't be anything particularly meaningful.  It's only important right now because at the moment we'd like to not see people getting all agitated in that general area of the world.

Honestly the only thing that matters to me is the fact that I'm almost entirely certain that I'll never see my grandfather again before he dies.

If there is one thing that has really irked me about this election and its results, it's how a lot of level-minded, liberal people I know have suddenly jumped onto the fascist bandwagon against the Iranian government simply because they don't like Ahmadinejad.

I hate him, too, and don't think he should be in power, but I haven't seen one tangible shred of evidence that he stole the election, and the only thing going on the Mousavi side is that they simply refuse to believe that he could fairly win.  While I support revolution against an unlawful government, if Ahmadinejad was fairly elected these people simply will be rebelling against democracy.

Americans two-face about this sort of shit all the time. Removing some democratically elected "problem" in some third-world cluster-fuck and propping up a friendly US puppet is a tradition.

With the level of power the Iranian government has over the media and elections, I don't think they need to fudge the actual votes to remain in power.

Well, if more than half of the country is rebelling and rioting I'd wager he didn't really have majority support.

Iran is a population of 71 million.  Tehran is a population of 12 million.  100,000 people marching for Mousavi is not half the country.

Remember, this is the age of Twitter and the internet.  Those two things can amplify the voice of a majority.

Maybe Ackmineddijad won fair and square. People are just grousing because he denied The Holocaust of European Jewry.
