Today, I traded my Football Helmet for a Pugilist's Protector.

Nothing extra.  Not two hats.  Just a straight one to one trade of my Football Helmet for a Pugilist's Protector.

I could cry.

Finding someone who will give one hat for anything less than three hats should be a fucking achievement. Everyone seems to think that their hats are worth more simply because they touched them. Or that a hat would be worth two hats because it's painted or named or described or something that really makes no difference (they probably painted it a shitty color anyway).

I've all but given up on public trading. I'll just idle like I did back in the good old days.

I have a Baker Boy, a Puglist's, and a Bloke's Bucket Hat.
I'm looking for
A) 1:1 trades
B) Fuck you, people who think Vintage makes it worth six hats and the Blood of Christ

Bakerboy -> Tossel or Bombing
Puglist's -> Hard Counter or Stout Shako
Bloke's -> Ushanka or Heavy Duty Rag

Starr will do this trade. Message her next time you're both on.

So I just saw the stupid particle effect hats that are apparently being sold for hundreds of dollars. TF2 is now officially The Dumbest Game. It's still fun every once in a while, but holy shit does this make buying things like characters in WoW or items in Diablo seem less retarded in comparison.

I find most of the particle effects irritating.

My clan ran an event where we bought 100 keys and opened 100 crates donated by players. 0 unusuals.

If it is an unusual and has Burning Flames, Scorching Flames, or Ghosts, and to a lesser extent Energy effects, it is worth at least a hundred bucks. 200+ if it's a really good burning hat, like Chieftain's Challenge or Vintage Merryweather. If it's a Tyrant's Helm or Modest Pile of Hat with Sunbeams effect, you could very well get 300+ if you find someone who has the cash.

Most hats are worth like 5 bucks. Vintages can be 6-15 depending on quality and rarity. Promos like the Sam and Max set can reach 90. Funny that the items sell for four times the price of the game itself.

It's bananas. And I'd love to see someone who knows nothing of TF2 try to decipher that.

edit: the reason Unusuals go for so much is because it costs so much to open the crates to get them in the first place, 2.50 for a damned crate key, with a .5% chance of finding an Unusual inside, and a complete crapshoot at the hat/effect combo. One of 24 effects, on one of like 65 hats, so good ones are damned impossible to find. I expect Valve to drop the price of crate keys to 99 cents or so, or make crates craftable into keys, or something like that, to annihilate the secondary market.

Those prices are frankly terrifying.

And this is from a person who's lived armpit deep in the MTG secondary market for nearly two decades.

Quoted from some guy from Something Awful. He hasn't really said much else, and that quote was in response to people asking how the hell he was making money off of TF2.

Hell, for that sort of money you can buy several quality hats for your actual head.
