Arc, you're being cryptic instead of directly answering people's questions again.

Complicated proposition; simple answer. Direct.

I think Thad meant more about the second response.

I think I speak on behalf of all the programmers in this community when I say: I'm not spending my time on that shit.

Are child boards blockable by individuals in a way that main boards aren't?
Boards can be blocked for individual user groups. As a matter of fact, those who wish not to see Wolf Games / Wolf Game Updates could just be thrown into a group with all the same rights as a regular user, but with the Wolfyness invisible to them once it has its own board. That way the wolf updates will remain on the Latest Posts listing who wish to see them there, and the code doesn't have to be hacked.

That is a bit more drastic than simply blocking it from the Recent Posts list, but then, I suppose anyone who's utterly sure they'll never be interested in forum games wouldn't mind.

Here's what I'd suggest, if we go that route.  You remember the old Shop where you could buy things to change your usergroup?  I'd say, put some items on sale for normal users that allow them to set their usergroups to one that blocks FGs, one that blocks NSFW, one that blocks both, and one that blocks nothing.  Make them free, and then people can change settings at will rather than having to go through an admin.  (I just checked; I can't even change people's usergroups, so it'd all be on your head.)

The Shop nearly broke all other modifications on the old boards. A simple stickied thread for Opt-Outs would work just as well.

I think Thad meant more about the second response.

Ridiculously poised question; simple answer. Direct.

Gen. Videogames
Non-game media/hobbies
Real Life (all personal discussion)
Forum/community stuff
Real World (Thadland)
Creativity/Forum Games (filtered from Recent Posts)
MMOFag/Friendcode Basement
NSFWville

I think this is the way to go. I was trying to think up a list myself, and it came out basically like this - only I thought to put the Online Gaming stuff with the Gaming forum, until reading this thread reminded me that that would make the Gaming forum light up whenever somebody posted a friend code.

(I'm participating!)  :slow:

Arc's implication here is that we're going ahead with the reorganization.  Timetable?

toot toot, here comes the drama train.

I'll work on the reorganization myself, then.  Probably have everything sorted out tonight.

The Ministry thing was clever but it's hell trying to remember whether VvW is in Showing Off or Slacking Off.

That's not a problem with the "Ministry of..." naming condition, it's a problem with the "...____ing off" naming convention.  IIRC the names were clearer originally, though I admit I don't remember any of them except "Ministry of Sticking It to The Man".  Which I liked.  Oh, and "Ministry of Keeping It Real", which I liked because it's a Simpsons ref.

Anyway.  Sounds like we've decided on how we're recategorizing; you're right, we should focus on snappy new names.

Perhaps Videoland for games, Hall of Justice for politics, Neighborhood of Make-Believe for creative works...or do place names sound too much like Pyoko's new Earthbound theme?

I think Thad meant more about the second response.

Indubitably.

Ridiculously poised question; simple answer. Direct.

Like hell.    "OK" is not an appropriate response to the question "Are you speaking on behalf of all the programmers in this community?"  It does not even parse.

Yes, it LOOKED like you were probably using "OK" to mean "yes", but you could just as easily have been using it to mean "Whatever, dude, I'm going to blow off your question rather than answer it."  You answered ambiguously when you could have easily answered clearly.

I think I speak on behalf of all the programmers in this community when I say: I'm not spending my time on that shit.

So there's your answer, Guild: the guy who, judging by his previous posts in this thread, wants EXACTLY what you're describing more than anyone else here, doesn't think it's worth the time it would take to make it work.

But it would still be pretty cool.

I've upgraded :thad: & :kazz: to admins.

Ah, that's why my front page looks different.

toot toot, here comes the drama train.

I know you don't like carrying things over from the old boards, but the sig was kind of useful.

Kazz, are you taking naming suggestions now or are you  :doit: :doit: :doit: :doit: :doit:?

Suggest away.  I'm just going to reorganize with placeholders like "Videogames" etc; the clever stuff can happen after.

SHUT THE FUCK UP, KAZZ

WHY DON'T YOU JUST LEAVE

(DISCLAIMER: I am joking.)

I'm so insulted by the assumption that I'd need a disclaimer that I am now leaving forever.

(DISCLAIMER: i'm totally serious, bye)

That's true.  Remember when everybody stopped taking me too seriously and realized I was joking most of the time?  That was awesome.

That's just how Arc says "I love you."

But saying "I love you" with a syntax error is an AFFRONT to all the programmers in the community!

(Technically it's a semantic error.  But "syntax error" is a more familiar phrase to non-programmers.)

Alternate idea: Put a poll in each reorganized board with everyone's suggestions and we vote. That sounds like something Kazz might put the effort into if we asked nicely.

It's a type error.  He set a boolean value to a non-boolean.

I'm not trying to be clever so much as I finally just figured out why that statement was bothering me all this time.
