1) Gather a number of other sadistic people.
2) Download Knytt Stories.
3) Fuck around with the packed-in editor for a bit.
4) Make Zaratustra edit it.
5) Wait until the last day of your turn to build part of a level.
6) Make a couple rooms filled with either * A shitload of death lasers or * Nothing.
7) ???
8) Profit!  For Frocto at least, assuming that he normally gets paid an average of $2/hr.

I've basically been thinking about gathering interest for this for the past few days, with the one caveat being that I have no idea exactly how Zara handled the editing of the last one and not really wanting to rope him into it unless he actually wanted to do it.

I actually ran another Exquisite Knorpse on another forum. Zaratustra participated. If you guys are seriously interested in doing this, I'd be up for running it again.

http://zarawesome.googlepages.com/KSLC.exe

I used that

basically I copied the whole map somewhere out of hand in the level
then wiped the rooms with no reach

Did you handle the editing on that one too, Newb?  If so and you had an easy enough time of it then we're probably good to go, although this lot is probably a lot harder to organize than a group of dedicated developers.

I like the idea of doing a Knytt Stories one (alongside the HL2 one, I like them both) because I know I can work with it in my current hardware state.  That said I can't help but wonder if there isn't something very similar but a bit more modern or at least different we can try.  I'm not against exploiting the extremes of an engine but I'm really satisfied with where I left it the first time out, with both my entries accomplishing in my mind what I had set out to do (i.e. add bosses to a game that had no major enemies or even any real means of combat.)

I was poking around with console game hacking tools earlier (Super Exquisite Corpse Bros. 3!) but nothing seemed a.) particularly use friendly or b.) updated for modern systems.

I find that way superior, myself! We're doing this.

EDIT TO ADD: Well, the Knytt Stories engine has been a bit improved upon since our last time around. I'm curious to see how much further we can take it. But yeah, if you guys find some kind of gamemaking system that we could try this out on that wouldn't bore people like Frocto to tears, I'd be up for that, too.

I've had fun listening along. It makes me wish that I would have spent more time on my zone, turning it into a hair-trigger challenge rather than focusing on atmosphere that would be cursed at and blazed through.

Sorry, which area did you do?

Heh. Just to clarify, I found the ORIGINAL Knytt stories boring. This one is just fine.

I do want to say that you've been a great sport about me inflicting this on you, and I've really enjoyed watching these. I tend to burst out laughing at the same spots you do. It's also been really helpful to watch somebody who doesn't play Knytt Stories like it's your second nature navigate the level we made; it gives me ideas about improving my designs.

Sorry, which area did you do?

The temple to the left of the starting point and a few of the tunnels to the lower right. I think that I was the second person on the list. There are a few NPCs, a chamber with a non-functioning dynamite plunger, and a bonus room that isn't accessible until the end.

I do enjoy the maps where it's just slow exploration and atmospheric music though.

I was poking around with console game hacking tools earlier (Super Exquisite Corpse Bros. 3!) but nothing seemed a.) particularly use friendly or b.) updated for modern systems.

It is important to note the difference between art and good art.

So, Episode 12, when Frocto trying to get through the death trap in the Ninja factory, was anyone else saying "DUDE, LOOK DOWN.  THE LASER IS BROKEN, GO DOWN" whenever he managed to hit both switches, and then die by jumping around, waiting for the game to tell him what to do next?
