Additionally, how does one make an array of switches which can open a door?

Bank 15 contains the combination lock switches and stuff. It also contains the switchable walls. Tileset 5 includes the combination character tiles so you can actually show the player what the correct combination is.

There are three different kinds of switches: touch-to-activate, duration, and combination.

Touch-to-activate looks like an orange switch with an arrow pointing up to it. By touching the switch, ALL switchable walls are turned off for as long as the player is on the same screen.

Duration looks like a green switch. The player has to fill a gauge by continuously standing on it; if he moves, it begins emptying. Once it's full, all switchable walls are disabled as long as he stays on the same screen.

Combination switches are pretty obvious. Which one you put in a particular position determines what character will be used to activate that position. All combination switches must be active simultaneously to disable the walls; they are RE-ENABLED if one of the switches is touched again, forcing the player to relocate the correct character for that switch.

Not going to bother counting rooms again until the level's done.

CURRENT LEVEL STATUS:

1. Newbie, Running: 30 screens
2. Kayin, Double Jump: 34 screens
3. Kazz, Climb Walls: 81 screens
4. Bongo Bill, Blue Key: 20 screens
5. Niku, Umbrella: 11 screens
6. Zaratustra, High Jump: 93 screens
7. Zach, Red Key: 37 screens
8. Kayma, Hologram: 30 screens
9. Friday, Yellow Key:
250+ screens
10. LaserBeing, Radar and See Invisible: many screens
11. Newbie: a couple dozen more

12. Bongo Bill (10/29/2009)
13. Brentai, Purple Key and Ending
14. Artists, Art
15. Zaratustra & Newbie, Final Polishing

November 15th is actually pretty realistic.

Well, things are going well on mine. First major area is laid out and tested... probably not as hard as my first area, but there's room for expansion in case I feel inspired again. Transitional area is done, and the shortcut past it from the beginning. All that's left is the second part, the connection to Brentai's area, and detail work throughout.

Sent my level in. If I counted correctly, 83 screens (though this count is artificially inflated because many of them exist only to stop players from drifting into the undefined void), two custom songs, one secret exit, two regular exits that Brentai might like to take advantage of, and more tricky jumps than you can shake a stick at. Getting into it and reaching the end requires everything but the Purple Key and See Invisible.

SUPER SUDDEN PSYCH OUT OMEGA!!!!!

So, here's the deal.  As you might have noticed, there is no "second-pass" through all the creators as we have previously batted around - which is fine, because at the rate you guys build stuff the thing would have become (more) ponderously long.

BUT

I think everybody ought to get a chance to design some stuff at a point where all powerups have become available - really go wild with the challenges, etcetera.  So here's what I want you guys to do, if you'd kindly:

Please whip up and send me an additional mini-area within the next... let's say 48 hours.  Assume the player has all powerups available.  It should specifically not be colossal, but you can make it as challenging as you want since this is basically the endgame stretch.

Don't worry about how it might fit with other areas, I'll go ahead and take care of all that and "integrate" it all with the stuff that I'm doing.  Also note that this is still my bit, so I reserve the right to change parts of your levels or at the very least slap an obnoxious imported music track over it.  No, I'm not doing this just to make you all build my area for me - you'll see how it works when I do it (meaning, after I figure it all out myself).

If you're unwilling/burnt out on this, please at least send me something so that I can synthesize something useful out of it - if you don't participate here I'm afraid the omission might become noticeable.

Feigned apologies for the intentional short-notice!  I look forward to seeing your final areas!

Working on it. In the meantime, I'm getting sloppy as we've gotten closer to the end: the color-coded map I sent before was incorrect. Use this one, instead. (Actually, the topmost two green squares should probably be yellow rather than green, and the bottom-most standalone blue square should be red. OH WELL.)

I'd recommend against it? Probably doesn't matter, actually; it's not like it'll tell you anything useful. Considering the number of warps and shifts throughout the level, the physical layout of the rooms doesn't bear an enormous resemblance to the path you'll actually wind up taking.

In the mini-level segment I'm sending to Brentai, I'm using up the remainder of the unused squares in Tileset 240. You snooze, you lose.

The last ad wasn't doing the trick, so I made another one:

See, if you really wanted to do it right, you'd show a closeup of Juni's...

:oic: :goggles:

NOTE: Yes, that was my real first reaction to Bongo's posts.  :derp:

My mini-segment's done. It took me longer than anticipated, but I'm pretty proud of how it turned out. Copying the settings file over could be a pain, though, since all the rooms will need to be renamed with their new coordinates. Just waiting on megaupload to finish before I send the PM.

I've received areas from Newbie, Niku, Zaratustra and Bongo Bill.  Friday is supposedly done with hers, I just haven't gotten it.

The 48-hour thing was just to keep people from making too much shit, so the rest of you feel free to just dump a handful of rooms on me whenever.
