I heard this hero opening his toothless mouth on the BBC this morning. Way to make us sound like a land of rednecks who believe our laws came from God, not a bunch of dudes in powdered wigs and stockings... oh wait...

Is there a more specific "AMERICA FUCK YEAH" thread I should put this in, or will WTF do fine?

Why read a boring old story, when you can watch it yourself!

Why read a boring old story, when you can watch it yourself!
Because I don't have the time, patience, or stomach to listen to an NRA crackpot rant for five minutes?

A more observant friend pointed out that this guy is touting his patriotism and all that by selling a Soviet gun. That's just as good as the white supremacists posing in front of a swastika while clutching an Uzi, which many forget is a product of the Israel Military Industries.

Lulz for everyone! On me!

That joke isn't as funny as it once was: "WE'RE GIVING AWAY TROPHIES OF A DEFEATED ENEMY! RAWR!"

Ah, I wasn't aware you were allergic to laughter.  That's the funniest thing I've seen all day.

You can skip all of this if you want; I'm not really sure if I know this or if it's accurate/pertinent or not.

Technically there are defensive hand grenades, although they're only called "defensive" because the casualty radius is about 30 to 50 yards (which is usually equal to or less than the distance one can be reasonably expected to throw an explosive surrounded by a fragmenting metal shell) and, as such, they were expected to be used from behind cover, or a defensive position.  You can use grenades to defend your home - very effectively, I might add! - but since refurnishing an entire room is usually less expensive than replacing a stolen TV it's something you only want to do if you're more concerned about the principle of the thing.  Or if you're some dumb hick sellin' guns with his trucks.

...and if I had to hazard a guess I'd say he's offering an AK instead of something a bit more :america: like an AR-15 or M4/M-16 partly because the AK uses 7.62mm ammo, which is a pretty common round when it comes to hunting firearms and easier/cheaper to get than 5.56mm NATO, and partly because the M4 is only legal for military and police force use and the AR-15 has so many laws governing what you can and can't have on it that it's generally just a pain.

Something like that, at least.

It helps that AKs are dime-a-dozen and rugged as hell.

Yoji, we are operating a counterinsurgency on two fronts which are eating through are 5.56x45 and 7.62x51 Nato stockpiles that we kept for the cold war, if you dare take in how much of our ammunition is actually being made (no, we don't trust chinese ammunition for very good reasons).

7.62 x 39mm Norinco or eastern european, or US ammunition right now is inexpensive and plentiful.  You will find the calibre anywhere, anytime.

Otherwise, every nation has a variant of every rifle nowadays.  I bet those semi-auto ak variants are Chinese-made for

Besides, there's nothing more fun than riling the liberals to post in their haute message boards after their seven-hour a day office jobs..  And that CNN cunt.  She is everything that is wrong with the liberal media and interviewing methods.  It makes me happy that our journalists up here aren't complete cockfags..

Also O Hax, you are frakking well kidding me.

Defensive mother fucking grenade?

That is a straight up honest-to-god oxymoron that now will go into my vocabulary..

Defensive grenade - a joke and even your mention is a joke.  By grenading a room, you a clearing it.  That is an offensive tactic, even in the defense of your own building..

its defensive because it requires it to be thrown from cover.

the modern M67 grenade used by the US military can be thrown about 40m but the grenade can launch shrapnel more than 200m

the miltary meaning of defensive is far different than what most of us think the meaning is

Grenade makes a wonderful deterrent.  Who wants to press their luck against somebody so clearly dangerously insane?

Yeah, it's probably better to parse it as "grenade that is used from a defensive position."

Grenade makes a wonderful deterrent.  Who wants to press their luck against somebody so clearly dangerously insane?

Personally I have to wonder how many folks like our friend the truck salesman there want people to be able to own heavy military hardware, not for home defense in the "burglar" sense, but in the "government police state/Communist revolution/some other political bugbear we're all convinced is coming" sense.

Saturn, please understand that while I don't have many fields where I even pretend to be an expert at, I have lobbed more of that very model you mention that you have, or anyone here in the boards combined on more continents in a lifetime.

Grenades are not defensive weapons, and I ensure people will laugh when I make the reference "So someone called this thing a defensive weapon once..." on the range.  Properly-timed shrapnel makes a damned-effective punchline among like-minded people.

Also, I fail to see what is insane about grenades, except those who don't pray or find cover when the very word is shouted..

Also, the initial primary use of a grenade is to clear trenches or dugouts on assaults, and are usually lobbed on the last bit of an assault, as these 'defensive positions' make good ricochet for the pinata's goodies..

I'm talking about people who would have one in their homes or on their person in a civilian area as a defensive measure.

It's not that grenades are defensive weapons, it's that specific kinds of grenades were called "defensive grenades" for the reason that, again, they were meant to be used from behind cover due to the possibility of the thrower being in the kill radius even after throwing.  The U.S. stopped producing the most common one (the 36M "Mills Bomb") some time in the seventies, which coincided nicely with the U.S. being on the offensive for all subsequent conflicts it was involved in.  It was a niche weapon that no longer had a niche, in other words.

...and that "grenades as home defense" thing was meant in jest.  Ah, whatever; I expect this bit to end up in Jail before long so...

Didn't the supreme court ruling that struck down the D.C. handgun ban say the the local government can't place limitations on the types of arms protected by the second amendment? Under that logic shouldn't AK-47s, grenades, and hell even tanks be protected under the second amendment?

The problem is that the second amendment was written at a time when the average citizen wasn't likely to have anything more powerful than a hunting rifle anyway.  About the only more powerful thing there was to buy was a cannon, and nobody was making those for public consumption.

Nowadays I could probably pick up two AK-47s for the same cost as capping one of my teeth.
