If you preorder from gamestop you get a 5 dollar discount. If you pay an extra 10 bucks you get the bundle that comes with the new classic controller. If you preorder it you are basically buying the new classic controller for 5 bucks.

There is supposedly a bundle floating around that includes the wii speak microphone, but I want to have a good controller for playing this. That and there are usb keyboards/computers with microphones for talking to people in-game.

Are you saying that some USB keyboards have microphones built in them and they'll work for in-game voice chat in Monster Hunter Tri?

No, I am saying that there is text chat via keyboard. It would be awesome if I could use some sort of futuristic usb microphone as well, but I guess I need Nintendo's stupid thing.

I played the demo, and it doesn't have a tutorial! How am I supposed to guess whether I'll like it if I don't know how to play?

I am really dying for monster hunter tri. I missed out on all the PSP monster hunter games so this is basically my first dose of Monster Hunter since the ps2.

Bongo: Just keep trying. There will be a tutorial in the full version, but I realize that it doesn't help right now. Look up some videos on youtube to see how the game is played, and keep trying to figure it out. Even with the in game tutorials, the monsters take a few tries to learn their weakspots and patterns. It's even harder with the 20 minute time limit in the demo, when usually you get 50 minutes. I'd say you should just keep messing with the demo. You might get the hang of it eventually.

So I was thinking today how it is going to be so much fun for all of us swinging around our huge swords knocking each other over while whatever dumb beast we are trying to kill watches.

What I am trying to say is that I can't wait for this game to come out.

Except that is a rumor, and I am sort of pessimistic about that. It'll probably end up being something stupid like TRADING CATS.

A nice interview about a hopefully nice game. I still don't know what to think about the online mode though, as the whole INFRASTRUCTURE SUPPORT! was just tacked on the the end of the article outside of the interview.

It turns out that I'm actually going to have spending money by the time the Wii game comes out, so I'll be in on day one.

EDIT: I was wrong and am still broke.

The game comes out tomorrow, but for people who either got it from a store that doesn't care about release dates, or have SUPER SECRET PRE-RELEASE COPIES, the online server is going up sometime tonight.

I've only played a bit so far. It is sort of jarring to not have any money starting out. I'm going to try getting enough money to get armor before I try the first urgent quest. The underwater fighting seems cool so far, even though I haven't fought anything too big. I can't wait until tomorrow when I can get my classic controller. The wiimote + nunchuck controller is okay, but I would love to not have to shake my controller around like a moron.

Just got the controller (and an actual copy of the game I guess). Fucking Nintendo and their "a is go" button. I keep mashing the B button expecting to go through menus, but then I remember that this isn't the PSP. Other than the menus, the controls seem okay. You can choose either the psp style controls (with a control stick for the camera!*) or the PS2 style controls (Attack with the right control stick). I haven't tried the PS2 style, but I think I will next time I play).

*Even with better camera controls, I AM STILL USING THE FUCKING D-PAD OUT OF HABIT.

I am enjoying this so far.

My favorite thing is that your running animation changes when there's an epic monster nearby, making it comically exagerrated in the "oh FUCK gotta GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE" kinda way.

Picked this up today. As it's been a few years since I played monster hunter, I am taking it upon myself to learn how to use the lance. I figure if I play with it from the start I can't fall back on the excuse of 'well, I know how to use greatswords' a few hundred hours down the line when defensive weapons become decidedly better.

Also, I want to take a moment to note: if this game is supposed to look better than Monster hunter 1 at all, I can't tell because not having HD graphics really makes everything look like blurry shit. WRU Wii HD? I'd buy a new model of wii just to be able to play in 1080p.
