Monster Hunter
« on: August 27, 2009, 02:53:41 PM »

So I guess Mr. Saturn and Aintaer have been fooling around with this and I am late to the show, but Ad Hoc Party can be downloaded to US PS3s which allows Ad Hoc PSP games to be played over the world wide webs.  I am going to probably nab a copy of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and try to get my groove on with them.

Process to Pray Monster Hunter:
1: Start up Adhoc Party
2: Start up Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
3: Go to the online guild hall in the game
4: Go to the third option from the top in Adhoc Party
5: Navigate yeself to the desirous room of playing (Saturn and I have been using I1, that's World I, Lobby 1)
6: ???
7: Avail!

If the room isn't set up, you can probably ask one of us to do it or figure it out.

Yeah this game is not easy by any stretch.

I still get my ass regularly handed to me when I'm not extremely careful.

What I like about Monster Hunter vs other rpg series is that your characters, excepting the whole giant swords and inch thick plate armor thing, are essentially human. They are fighting giant dragons and dinosaurs they have no business fighting and unless they are very careful about dodging attacks and defending, they will die very, very quickly.

Yeah, that's awesome.

I'm just sad my PSP is entirely too borked controlwise to actually play this properly.  Maybe when I get it disassembled and can try to clean its innards out things will be better.  :(

The thing about the lance tutorial is that they give you a very good lance compared to the one you start with, so you basically dash around with that one lance skill and just stomp all those raptors. So it's like, this is clearly the best weapon ever and then I bounced off a raptor and got eaten.

So, uh, yeah, turns out I kept dying because I was attempting the online/wireless/whatever missions that you need other people for, or at least much better equipment. Once I figured out I was supposed to talk to the chief, things have been going a lot smoother.  :nyoro~n:

So I'm posting in this because Monster Hunter Tri is coming out and I don't feel like making a new thread. Is anyone else getting Tri? It looks interesting enough and even if there aren't as many monsters to hunt in it compared to the PSP version I can actually play online in this version.
