I haven't connected my wii to the internets yet. I want to finish the main campaign before I get into a two hour argument with my father in law about why a wireless network is not like putting a giant neon sign outside that says 'hack me!'

Man, playing online is fun, but it sucks when you get partied up with people who don't know when to heal, and when to get the fuck out of dodge. Qurupeco summons a royal ludroth, guys don't run towards the exit once the ludroth aggros, and queue two schmucks sandwiched. It feels good to be able to show off by not dying and holding your own against the monster your fighting, but it sucks when you lose items because your teammates wipe.

I'll get online whenever I get around to connecting the Wii to my new router.

Rathian remains an asshole in this game.

I shouldn't be surprised, but fuck. Even with a lance this fight is retarded. A monster that hits that hard shouldn't move that fast.

The worst thing about the switchaxe in my opinion is that it stops having good upgrades until god knows when. I am stuck on Barroth because he moves too much to hit his fleshy bits, and the bone axe + has the wimpiest sliver of green sharpness ever, making sure that you can't hit him anywhere but his underbelly or tail.

The next possible upgrade you can get for the bone axe uses Barroth materials, and it gives -20% affinity.

Meh, he's not too bad.  I do like how lances can just pick him apart piece by piece.  Also, got my bolt axe.   :perfect:

So I'm looking at the wiki, and the only weapons that have decent sharpness by the time you first fight barroth are sword and shield and the greatsword.  ::(:  I might just go with lance, since I don't want this auto guard charm go to waste.

The trick to Barroth is to not fight him when he's enraged. As soon as he starts blowing steam, just run and keep running. If you have to wait off screen for a while, do so. He'll heal every now and again, but never by much. He's way too fast to fight effectively when he's mad, though. Of all the wyverns I've fought in this game and the ps2 game, he's the most unforgiving when he is pissed off.

The caveat to this is, if you can get his tail off, he's actually pretty easy to fight enraged, lower attack range. The downside is that getting off the tail is nearly impossible because whenever you knock mud loose off any part of his body, he's likely to become enraged. :whoops:

edit; So I beat Lagiacrus; Really not that hard of a fight, to be honest. Rathian/Rathalos are considerably harder, as they don't have as predictable attack patterns. I don't know if it's just becuase I'm a lancer or what, but none of the leviathans have been particularly challenging, I seem to have no trouble consistently attacking anything when I'm in the water.

God fucking damn Barroth sucks. I think I am going to get Jaggi armor and put enough attack gems on it to get attack up medium, and then if that doesn't work I'll just play online until I can get to the Tundra missions to collect materials for upgraded weapons.

Fuck, I was too busy playing to see that post last night.

I was playing a game with 3 other dudes who were trying to get to rank 8. They also had super awesome weapons, so I felt bad when we did every mission that I had trouble with in about 8 minutes each. They all seemed like they were doing so much more damage than I could, but they were using switchaxes and greatswords. They also kept using their fucking sweep attack that would constantly hit me, so I don't feel too bad.

Yeah, Gigginox is a motherfucker. I haven't been able to kill him yet, so I've skipped him for now.

At least we have an easy time with pretty much every other wyvern in the game, so... I think I'm going to end up making a longsword or a switchaxe and trying that against him and see how I do.

I wonder how many people got the Wii Speak just so they could yell "GOTCHA BITCH!"

Okay, now that I have a Spiral Lance, I am doing better. It has more green sharpness than the knight's lance, plus it has 110 water damage. I also got to be in a party with some good players tonight. We were pretty much grinding for qurupeco scales, but in the process I got to hunter rank 8. Now all I have to do is the coral quest and then I will be fighting Barroth in a urgent. I'm looking forward to smashing it's face in with 3 other people.

I think a great many players yell similar things regardless of having a microphone (Still wish the games gave you an option to save the KILLING BLOW screenshots)

I guess what I want to know is what you have against free buffs, damage, carves, and a second target to get attention off of you half the time?

The free buffs and damage are infrequent at best, the carves are never when it matters (rathian tail? No, I don't want to gather on that, I'll take these herbs over here) and the second target to get attention of me is the exact reason why it's a problem. The lance takes longer to put away than any other weapon, which means I don't want the wyvern on the other side of the map (esp. underwater) and it's harder to predict and avoid a large area effect attack that isn't centered on me. See: Every single fucking attack Barioth has. Even using the hat that is supposed to make him buff often still has him dancing maybe once every two or three minutes, so at that point why am I even bothering?
