A sugar-free lollypop isn't going to make me feel better about a root canal on the wrong tooth.

That was pretty good tho'.

And then Oda was like: "SHIT! I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH AWESOME IDEAS FOR THE NEXT ARC! BETTER STRETCH OUT THIS BATTLE!"

The notion that Oda could run out of ideas is pretty insane considering that one of the best characteristics of One Piece is that it's still pretty fresh and unique. The stuff that happens after Thriller Bark is some sort of hyperdrive acceleration.

The Foxy Arc is definitely hit or miss(except for the battle, which is pretty amazing and interesting considering that it's technically Luffy vs a fat middle-aged guy who is just a lot more cunning than he is naive) but it is followed by BEST ARC.

I might have liked the Foxy arc a lot more if people weren't being forced to swear "Royalty" to each other. That said, there are clearly times when Oda isn't all awesome. Otherwise you wouldn't think of the Skypiea arc as being weaker. Clearly he picks arcs to house his less awesome ideas while he digs up more awesome ones to make better arcs.
I have heard rumors about a "peak awesome" crisis that will spark the downward spiral of our society. It is a pretty scary prediction.

Spending too much time reading Manga update:

Looks like the keikaku* is proceeding according to plan. This mockery is not actually very good. It is suggesting "footnote abuse" when the real problem is "working-draft-presented-as-a-final syndrome". Forgive me!! I didn't intend at all to go as far as a paragraph when changing into mockery!

*Means plan in moonspeak**.
**moonspeak means nihongo*** in English.

Yeah, it's not like it's perfect, but it's such an amazing overall standard of quality that it's damn near the best. Skypiea, for all it's faults, still gives us Luffy vs Bellamy, Eneru in general, Montblanc Norland(I think that's his name.. Acorn Head the First) and Robin's first kill as a Straw Hat. The priest fights aren't completely bad, either. Fair warning, though: You'll gouge your eyes out after ripping your ears off if you watch the anime version of their fight with that round priest who never stops fucking laughing.
There's an incredibly lame mini-arc after Thriller Bark but before shit hits the fan that is probably mildly necessary to set up shit hits the fan, but is painfully boring and anti-climatic. Namely, the Imposter Sanji arc. Shit Hits The Fan is so fucking fantastic that you can easily forgive it, though.
The Shit-Fan Islands arc has been pretty amazing so far. The great thing about One Piece is that I genuinely have no idea where he's going with this at the moment, except a vague impression that the Straw Hats will come out on top somehow.

Skypiea's relative lameness isn't because of Oda running out of ideas (hell, the whole saga is pretty much nothing but Oda coming up with cool ideas), it's just the whole thing is so... abrupt, really.

At the end of the Baroque Works saga, a major force
(Crocodile)
in the world had just been deposed, resulting in a massive power vacuum which sets the stage for a
massive and inevitable war between two of the great powers that rule the One Piece world
. Also, the Straw Hat Pirates have big fat new bounties on their heads, as well as a new crew member with her own impressive bounty, and they should start feeling the pressures of being notorious in the Pirating world. Shit is getting serious. So then what happens?
A ship falls on them. They go to a new place almost completely isolated from their own world, beat up God, and never speak of it ever again.
Well, that and meet another, obviously important D.
And have Luffy & Co. escape what would almost definitely be a complete and utter slaughter.
Thing is: Seeing the relative ramping up of super-powers in the world, I'm kind of surprised that
Crocodile
actually numbers amongst the sellout pirates.

The man created a massive, world-spanning secret organization and usurped an entire kingdom for the sole purpose of finding instructions to a super weapon that would've let him rule the world and almost succeeded. And that's just what we know of. Hell, in one the front page mini-arcs,
Crocodile had the option of escaping prison and didn't go, implying that he's still not done planning things.
Also a hero, a generally terrifying guy, a bounty near or over a million, and a default Logia user.

That's what I love, by the way. Logias are almost literal God Mode powers and then you have guys like Gecko and Kuma who blow them out of the water so hard that they fly for three days.

That's just it! Aren't the sellout pirates supposed to be a top-tier "order keeping" force???
Crocodile's
raw combat prowess is so definitely and completely eclipsed by the other members that I'm a bit surprised he got in. CP9's powerlevel is so far above his that it makes him seem insignificant. I guess you're right though. His "real asset" could be his organization. It's hard to say though.

The Seven Warlords are a propaganda force. Crocodile is pretty terrifying. You appear to be tremendously confused.

Supposedly the upcoming White Beard is ready for a foight debacle that has the Marines summoning the Kuja Empress will see whether or not the Warlords are loyal in any way, shape or form.

They don't even consider Blackbeard for entry until he defeats Ace.

And if you're reading this far into the thread and got spoiled, your powers of observation are laughable.

Decide I can live without shonen manga and use the old issues for kindling?

I dunno if you reached a decision on this last month and all but for god's sake offer to sell them to one of us first you heartless brit.

Also regarding the latest developments in One Piece: Fuuuuuuck yeaaaaaar!
If Buggy gets an upgrade(Midair Super Flying Circus hints at a power boost) I will shit bricks. As it is, the buddy movie set-up is fantastic already!

Also insane props on the reunion of the Shichi's and a wounded Gecko. I wonder how mental he goes after his zombie crew failed...

Perona and/or Buggy for 10th Crew!

Buggy, the 10th? Nah. Awesome though that might be, he's got his own priority. Besides, he already knows where and what One Piece actually is, so him being a Straw Hat would fuck things up for Luffy. Perona, though? I'm totally boners over that.

As for Moria, I'd imagine he's pretty level-headed, actually. Bad Guys tend to get redemption after getting their asses kicked by Luffy and crew.

Speaking of which: CROCODILE. He's at Impel Down, he could have escaped earlier but chose not to, that mother fucker has a plan and he's going to get some shit done pretty soon.

PS. Buggy flying? That made me feel so happy inside.

Buggy was on Whitebeard's crew, which is said to be the closest to discovering One Piece. I believe only Gold Roger's first mate knows at this point, and Luffy told him to keep it to himself.

All the signs are there. Buggy Power-up, plz. He's a lot more graceful already. The Needle Forest was pretty slick.

Buggy is a bit too erratic to follow Luffy, but they're great rivals and counterparts and I think we could go for a pretty "mellow" addition to the crew instead of trying to one-up the outlandish factor. Brook was a fantastic peak! Not to mention Buggy's crew has abandoned him twice now...

I dunno, I just think Buggy could have a total heart of gold transformation and reform slightly. Luffy did show him total trust and kindness, after all! Alternatively, I'm wondering if the Strawhats just take all the Impel Down'd villains to the big Navy/Whitebeard party...

Luffy punches do reform many villains, but Gecko went zombie-insane after losing his living crew. Maybe he mellows out and starts doing his own work.. combine that with Doppleman and I bet he becomes pretty Gemini Man scary. :3c

Feeling kinda meh about Crocodile. As far as personable villains go, he's kind of on the low rung for me. He and Enel are great, but they just don't light me up with a don like Foxie, Buggy, Gecko, etc.

Also I think we're due for Luffy to beat up Jinbei(Whale Shark Fishman Shichi), he was alluded to "starting a riot" at the navy capital and being sent to Impel to cool off.

All in all Oda you rampant stallion of manga
What? No.
Buggy and Shanks were part of Rogers' crew. They fought together against Whitebeard several times. Raliegh says as much.

I politely disagree. Check it: Jinbei probably started rioting because of Luffy, who beat the crap out of one of the Tenryubito--great oppressors of all, but especially Fishmen.
All in all Oda you rampant stallion of manga

Why would you put that in spoilers? Everybody already knows that.

My bad. Same argument, though.
Technically, we can only guarantee that Gold Roger and his first mate know anything about the One Piece. Why else are Shanks and Buggy pirates if they've spoilers'd it? Granted, there's a ton we don't know about either.

Jinbei

Perhaps! But he's due to appear either way.
One Piece continues to deliver like the fist of an angry, but whimsical, god. In the latest chapter Luffy is leading an army of transvestites out of an undersea super-prison together with a fish man yakuza, a man made out of sand, a man made out of swords, a man made out of scissors, and Frank N Furter.
