I called it wrong.

Luffy's never going to stop having adventures. Ever.

I wouldn't take the "shortening your lifespan" thing all that seriously. It's more of a Japanese saying referring to its being dangerous. Gear Second is probably not actually shaving years off his life. The only really credible one, in terms of lifespan lost, is his extreme poison cure.

Pretty sure that Rob Lucci directly observes that Gear Second is life-shortening in the same breath that he realizes how Luffy is literally hyper-pumping his own rubber blood through a rubber body as the only explanation for not immediately shredding apart in a shower of gore.

Chopper said once or twice that "You're threatening your own life!"

And there was the near total paralysis after defeating Lucci.

And it draws a direct link to Gol D. Roger so.

On the other hand, after defeating Gecko and certain things happened, I bet he got some years back too.

Yeah, but like I say it's also an expression, like someone saying in English "You trying to kill yourself?". It just indicates that he's doing something they perceive to be dangerous, not that it is literally shaving time off the top. Read just about any manga and you'll see the same expression used when someone does something like that. It is also a common theme in the genre that the protagonist has a move that is dangerous to themselves and forces their bodies beyond the normal limits, but any long term effects are ignored pretty much 100% of the time.

Subversion:: Rurouni Kenshin uses "That unbeatable sword style you've kicked everyone's ass with is fucking with your body" as the way to end the story.

Poor Coby. Luffy doesn't have time for you right now.

P.S. Luffy used Soru without being in Gear Second.
