Oh please. Where's the 1400lb. black bear or or the down-on-his-luck ex-Luchadore?

man, I have picked up watching One Piece sporadically again (since my modus operandi is to get a nice big backlog so that when it grabs me i don't ever have to stop watching) and how is it every time i start watching the show i forget just how much i fucking love it.

(yes this is a manga thread but as much as i would love to be on top of things and up to date with one piece, the vocal cast in the anime is too fucking amazing for me to not make it my choice)

The anime just got to the beginning of the current arc, but it's about to enter filler again. However, it's about to enter into CANON filler, outlined by Oda himself. See, without spoiling too much, all the Strawhats gets scattered, but his editors felt that telling each of their tales in the weekly format would actually take a million years, so those stories are going to be anime filler.

That's right, One Piece is so good it made filler tolerable.

That's always been the case.  I think only the fucking dragon filler early on was actually interminable.  Everything else manages to coast by on the personalities of the main cast.

Also I'm pretty far back by this point (I'm on the filler right after leaving Water 7).

Well, from my point of view as a manga reader, this is the first filler I will actually watch.

The thing about One Piece filler (and I think someone here might have mentioned something similar) is that the cast is so interesting, and they play off each other so well, that it doesn't matter what they do. I could watch them just interacting on the boat for about damn ever.

That's what I liked about a lot of the Post-Alabaster filler. They were mostly just crew interactions.

That said, I've always been disappointed that more filler doesn't consist of the mini-arcs. Ace's, for example, would've made for a great couple of episodes right before his big fight with That Man.

Also, I guess I'm going to have to start watching One Piece again. I want to know how each character deals with the separation. ESPECIALLY Robin, because hers looks almost as badass as Luffy's.

There's a reason for that:
Don
is an actual, legitimate Oda creation.

speaking of the anime, anybody know where to snag some unobnoxious subs? I quit watching when Vegapunk crapped out.

It turns out that day and date One Piece animu isn't the only thing in store.

American Shonen Jump to Run Latest One Piece Chapters

Neither as fast nor as free, but it's an interesting move, and probably a step in the right direction.

So. One Piece 554.

I... really want to see this when the anime does it. I mean... shit.
FUCK YES GECKO MORIA IS GONNA GET BACK IN THE GAME
I am insanely impressed by the rampant characterization and style Oda is throwing around in a battle of this scale. He has basically come up with what, a hundred character designs? For a single arc? Jesus Christ!
Not to mention the VIP quality designs we've already seen introduced in Impel Down. My heart was warmed by the bravado of the Vice Chief's last stand..

Fun Game: try to count the powers used in battle scenes that aren't made blindingly obvious, like the Red Dog's reveal of magma powers. Apparently somebody ate the "Pull a Giant Mallet out of my Mouth Fruit"
What I'm waiting to see, though,
is how the Straw Hats are going to top all of this. This is all too seems good of a fight for them to stay out of. I think they're going to combine their newly leveled up powers and bring down the Gates of Justice.

Also, I'm going to call it now: Blackbeard is going to kill Whitebeard.

That's not much of a call! Me and Bal are thinking that the entire unified structure of the World Government is going to come crashing down. Maybe the Marines are completely decimated in the battle. We also wager that Ace dies. Basically, the sort of lawlessness in the New World comes to the entire world, the Shichibukai become independent, the Marines are scattered and become corrupt, all sorts of crazy shit.

If this were a completed series, you could check the "Select a Volume Tab" and we'd be maybe HALF-WAY through the series.

I think it'll go the other way. With Whitebeard killed by a Royal Shichibukai, the World Government will gain the necessary momentum to begin the end of the Era of Pirates. Ace'll live, and he'll go on to lead the remaining Whitebeard pirates.

BUT, if it DOES go your way, I suspect we might see Dragon make an appearance.
