Something drastic is going to happen to upset the current world order. Oda has been teasing that for years between Blackbeard, Don Flamingo, and Dragon, something huge is on the horizon. Not to mention that, of the current members of the Shichibukai, only one or two is actually trustworthy. Don Flamingo has his own agenda, Boa is loyal to Luffy, Kuma clearly has his own agenda (possibly related to Dragon), Bleackbeard has gone off to set his plan into action, and Jinbei is a member of Luffy's temporary crew. That leaves you Mihawk, who just wants to find good fighters to test himself, and Gecko Moria, who already lost to Luffy once before.

Glad you mentioned Kuma.
I think he's acting under Vegapunk's orders. So far, everything relating to that one character has been one massive mystery. I think he's going to eventually end up a Straw Hat, because he's interested in something only that crew can do. Regardless, whatever Vegapunk's affect on the story may be, it'll almost have to be the biggest bombshell dropped in the One Piece universe. Yeah, even bigger than Ace's dad.

Kuma does have an acquaintance with Dragon as well. Whatever his agenda is, I think it has little to do with propping up the World Government
The discussion of One Piece probably merits a split into its own thread at this point.

I'd kind of like to see a thread where each post has a spoiler tag somewhere in it.
I feel it necessary to chime in that Gecko is not actually trust-worthy. Probably saw Shicihin' as a nice license to raise the dead without government interference. Also that he went toe-to-toe with one of the Four Emps and there's no real shame in losing to Luffy at this point in the series. Bro could do something huge, especially with Oars/Oz/Os Jr!
Combo breaking all the One Piece talk to bring up the fact that I've started reading Kongoh Banchou.  I'm enjoying it a lot thus far despite the blatant shonen tropes at work.

How am I supposed to read 485 back chapters of a series now?

The irony is I subscribed to Shonen Jump in 2003 to get One Piece, then forgot to renew.

To read from the start in three days would take 3,324 pages per day. Just loading the images would take over seven hours a day.

554 chapters. I don't even have that many Pokemon. There aren't even that many Pokemon.

Why don't you just start reading it at your own pace and see where you go over time?

Some of the shoddier translations/cleanings may sap your will to live.

All I hear are a bunch of convenient excuses to deprive yourself of a good series that you can read at your own pace.

I was just agreeing with the "read at your own pace" bit. Or maybe, don't rely on OneManga for every chapter.

Do you know how I caught up?

I torrented every episode. And I watched every single one of them.

Because I have no life.

When I still read it (vol. 4 maybe) I had a hard time getting into it just because of the art style which was at the time much less talented than it is now.  Really, look at a comparison between how usop was originally drawn and how he is now (yes, even while he's not sogeking).

That and I had recently heard the American dub of the anime.  Unable to keep my brain from voicing them as they were in that ear-raping soundtrack, it became not just unenjoyable, but almost painful to read.

And now I'm just overwhelmed by the size of it.  I know I could catch up in less than a week, but the judgment centre of my brain just keeps screaming 'HOLY CRAP THAT'S LONG' and getting in the way.
