Well the actual unmodified story of the book wouldn't make for a good movie, largely because it didn't make a good book either. Puttering around for a while doing nothing before having a total non-ending is not a good thing to do in a film.

Dumas was nothing if not thorough. However, the great swathes of characterization and plot of The Count of Monte Cristo that was excised in the 2002 film should have led James Caviezel to actually be imprisoned in a dungeon and horsewhipped.

They might have spent a little too much time trying to get him to look "right", compared to the other characters.

It certainly isn't enough to put me off though!

Tin-tin always looked a little scary to me even when he was ink, so I'd say that's a job well done.

I think it's those baby-as-in-one-year-old blue eyes. He looks creepy because he has the body of a young man (as he should), but the eyes of a cherub.
