I thought Moffat was writing this?

Wikipedia says he wrote the first draft, before the writer's guild strike, and then they got somebody else to finish it because he was by then busy doing Doctor Who.

Then that Writer's Guild strike happened and then Moffat was busy with Doctor Who, so they got Edgar Wright (director and co-writer of "Shaun of the Dead", "Hot Fuzz", "Scott Pilgrim") to finish it.

Every single name I see attached to this movie makes me more and more excited. Peter "I Don't Fuck Up Motion Capture" Jackson is co-producing, for god's sake. (See also: Andy "King of Motion-Capture Acting" Serkis as Haddock.)

Oh, and pictures of Thompson and Thomson.

This is now a day-zero, avert-eyes-from-trailers, pre-order-tickets movie for me. And that never happens for me with movies.

Sure.

The secret is that I'll forget about it for six months.

"Your Highness"

It's nice that one of these movies won't bother to take itself seriously at all. Might feel way too much like a pack of idiots' D&D session, but then again, it might actually turn out to be good.

Well, Danny McBride created and stars in Eastbound and Down, which is basically perfect, and seeing that he wrote the script and is starring is a very very good sign.

Green Lantern Trailer HD 1080p

THOUGHTS:

1. Ryan Reynolds makes a pretty convincing Hal Jordan!
2. Looks like they pretty much nailed the origin. This is usually a good sign; or rather, if they totally fuck up the origin, it's a sign that they don't give two shits about the character, and the movie usually suffers for it. See: Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Catwoman, Hulk, and pretty much every other bad comic movie.
3. FUCK YEAH OA
4. FUCK YEAH KILOWOGG
5. Sinestro looks appropriately dickish.
6. The villain. I don't know who this guy is supposed to be, but isn't GL supposed to be fighting big cosmic threats? Evil Scientist Dude seems a bit down to earth, doesn't it?
7. The mask. In some bits it looks like an actual mask, but in that last bit, it looks like CG, which is weird, and sort of distracting. I get that the suit is supposed to be made of light, and therefore shiny, but having a big blob of fake-looking CG right in the middle of your lead actor's face is probably not the best decision. Hopefully they'll iron that one out before release.

All in all, it looks like it could be pretty good! DC's live-action films have been hit-or-miss(especially if you include the Vertigo-based ones), but it seems like they're finally starting to figure it out. And no matter what, just remember: it could have been worse.

Hector Hammond's supposed to be a minor villain; the big bad's going to be Parallax, probably in its giant yellow monster version.

Given that Parallax is known for possessing people, it's possible it'll bond with Hammond.  Or Hal, or somebody else.  Probably not Sinestro, obvious though that'd be, as they're supposedly holding off on having him go bad until the sequel.

This looks like they are making a very very smart move, that has been made before and been a good idea every time someone's had the opportunity to do it - taking Hal's decent origin, pitching Hal's shitty uninteresting characterization, and sticking Kyle's interesting personality in there instead.

Ah, that would explain Hammond's yellow eyes.

Ah, right.  Hadn't actually seen the trailer when I wrote that (firewall'd); consider that "possible" upgraded to "pretty much certain".

@TA: I admit I haven't read much Silver Age GL, but this characterization of Hal is pretty much in keeping with how he's been portrayed in the past few years' worth of retcons.

Most of my Green Lantern knowledge is from having read basically from the start of Volume 3 up to around when they did that post-IC miniseries where Kyle was Ion - not really Silver Age- but Hal was always really dour and serious and the closest he came to having anything happening was when he was limited to being "I am a military man who says orders".  Emerald Twilight and Zero Hour might have sucked, but at least Hal Jordan had some character when he was being completely out of character.

If "Rip out Hal's lack of personality and put in Kyle's goofy personality" is how they've been writing him the last couple years, then that's just another example of it.

I read Silver Age GL. Hal was a cocky playboy as far as I recall. A bit dramatic, like all the guys, but he was a lot more fun loving and care free before the whole... you know... Star City thing. Then he got all... Hal as he is today.

EDIT: Star City? Coast City? I know he lived/lives/whatever in Coast City but was that the one that was destroyed and he went all evil trying to fix? Or was it Star City?
See, this is why the need to have someone from Cheboygen or something.

Coast City.

Though I think they did a big let's-fuck-up-Star-City thing earlier this year in the other Green guy's book.

Right. Star City has been destroyed a few times. Couldn't remember if that's what set off Hal.
Arrow lives in Star City. And now there is a giant star shaped forest there.

Last time Coast City appeared I think it was around Sinestro War, and it had become "The City Without Fear" after having been destroyed by crazy alien shit and rebuilt people wouldn't move back for awhile, and then they wouldn't leave even in the face of the Sinestro Corps. I haven't read Blackest Night though, so maybe something happened then.

Seems like it musta been in Blackest Night, but they all start to blur together after awhile.

(Haven't read the books in awhile, but...Soranik Natu is Sinestro's daughter? )

It's DC comics.  "All purple people are related" is marginally less offensive than "all lesbians know each other".

Last Tron Legacy trailer before release. I still love the first movie, and this looks a lot like that, but with a score by Daft Punk, so sign me up twice.
