I have it on Steam. The standard game comes with codes for Blood Armor and The Stone Prisoner right off the bat. I believe this is the same with retail box copies. The CE comes with Warden's Keep and some other crap.

To use these keys, you need to register them with your EA account, then log in to that same account through the game. Once you do this, the game will try to synch with the mothership when you load up.

If you have a save game that has DLC associated with it that is more than some item (chiefly, The Stone Prisoner and Warden's Keep), you will not be able to load it without an internet connection. This is, I understand, handled by the the service mentioned earlier in the thread.

Hrm.

How's the game without the DLC?  I never bothered with the Mass Effect DLC, but OTOH that didn't introduce a frickin' party member, neither.

Yeah, you miss out on the game's most powerful party member, all loot that would show up as a result (Shale uses unique gear which never spawns without the DLC installed), two unique powers for your main character (which suck for Rogues but are seriously amazing for Mages) and the only persistant storage space in the game.

I can't comment on the party member, as I haven't actually wandered over there yet. If it's between the game without DLC and no game at all, I very much recommend playing the base game. It's really quite the hotness.

It's probably fair to say that Shale is intended to be part of the basic gameplay experience - as I understand it, the reason he's DLC with a redemption code in every box is to encourage people to buy the game new instead of used, since the DLC code only works once.

It installs a goddamn service.  Problems with that Content Updater service are why Max was having troubles convincing it that he actually owned the DLC he owned.

Am I to assume all this holds for the DLC for my nice shiny new copy of ME2?

...yeah, I was already 30% through the DLC torrent download before you replied.

(Semantic nitpicking: downloading something you are legally entitled to from a third-party source because you don't want it to stick crap on your computer may violate the license, but I can't really see calling it "piracy".)

Anyone know of DRM on various versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution?

It appears that the box copy has Steamworks.  So, probably not getting that.

Cheapest download ATM is Amazon.  (Which, annoyingly, doesn't seem to let you put the download version on a wish list.)  Anyone know of DRM there?

I was under the impression that the copy from Amazon also requires Steam, at least according to the rabble on Cheap Ass Gamer.

The sad thing is that that's actually an improvement.

I'd post in the other thread but that's way past this. GfWL in the first one probably wasn't the deal breaker for most people, SecuRom is a bigger issue.
