By the way, yesterday I made a terrible mistake and went to the GameFAQs forums. Guess what? As early as 12 hours after the game's (official) release, people were posting threads with massive fucking spoilers right in the titles. The first one I saw seems to have been deleted, but sure enough earlier today: new thread, exact same spoiler.

I guess what I learned is that I am a big fucking idiot for going to a GameFAQs message board.

You walked right into that one, I'm afraid. I'm lucky so far to have stumbled onto unmarked spoilers only after I already saw the relevant events in-game.

I don't think I'll get this. It sounds to me like the actual gameplay is adequate at best, and the main draw here is the heavy metal atmosphere. The thing of that is, I don't really care for heavy metal at all. I'm not repulsed by it the way I am by, say, country music, but the thought of playing a game where the main draw is worlds composed of heavy metal album covers and various other bits of rock culture doesn't really appeal to me. Plus, if the missions are as awful as suggested (poorly-designed escort missions? Yeah, I'll pass), I wouldn't be able to overlook it just because you buy upgrades from Ozzy and use them in a world made of musical instruments.

If nothing else, I'm almost certain that this game won't let you grow to giant size and terrorize a city full of talking lungfish.

It's a Tim Schafer game. Just pick it up for $20 in 6 months when it's sales are terrible.

Or rent it, the internet is judging it as a 6-8 hour adventure.

The only awful mission I have experienced was actually the very first sidequest I found, which was RACE TO GET THIS BEER ACROSS THE MAP BUT IF YOU GO FAST THE BEER EXPLODES.  Everything else was just fine (racing) to innocuous (kill some dudes here), and the ones that take like ten seconds seem to be an excuse to get you to explore the gorgeous world more than anything else.

Also brawling gets a lot better when you get the chain-lightning axe and so you've got some adequate AOE other than The Apartment Shaker.

Yeah, it's a game all about atmosphere and presentation but they're incredible.  I guess I will see if I find the full fledged stage battles as game breaking as some people do soon enough since I am coming up to the point where they become a Big Deal it seems like.

Also the tour bus escort mission was easy.  Suck less.

Got fire-breathing units for my army. Now I'm about to descend alone into a swamp cavern to kill a roaring beast for the ridiculous bat-creature who hired me.

What Doom said. Rent it and see how you feel about it.

Also if nothing else, this game is basically Ninja Masters of Asteroid X: The Video Game.

Heh. I won the beer mission on my first try, but I had to check my map every two seconds. I guess I'm too bad of a driver to go too fast? The escort mission wasn't bad, though. The main one that I had trouble with was the Hunt for razor boars, because I kept trying to kill them on foot.

Hunt for Razorboars isn't actually all that difficult on foot. Go to the little patio that the Razor Girl statues are located, stand on the grass for a few seconds, and when a Razorboar gets close you can quickly dash to the stairs where the boar can't get to and then blow the shit out of it with your magical guitar. Rinse and repeat.

Also: hemorrhaging shit the Drowning Doom are a pain in the ass. Thank Satan for the Facemelter.

Well, I beat it on the middle difficulty. I'd only freed about 35 dragon statues at that time; I got another 20 or so while tooling around afterward.

In addition to the regular dragon statues, there's some kind of big statue that you can't target; you can interact with 'em, though, and Eddie says something about how it wants to be free. I have yet to figure out what to do with these. I'm still missing a solo, so I guess it could be connected with that.

Or rent it, the internet is judging it as a 6-8 hour adventure.

"Rent it" hasn't been a valid suggestion to me ever since Blockbuster started charging $9.50 for game rentals.

Granted, there's a way to rent the game for a full month and only pay an additional $1.50, but I haven't taken advantage of that yet. Mostly because if there's a game that I'd want to play for a month, I'd rather just own it so I could play it again in the future and not have to spend more money.

Newbie: those tell you the history of the Brutal world, like the origins of the Tainted Coil and the Sea of Black Tears. You free them with the Earth Shaker.

I dunno, I probably wouldn't use it enough to warrant the monthly rate. I'll just stop complaining.  :nyoro~n:

Jesus, the Dry Ice Mines Battle is hilariously difficult. I just can't seem to push past the Fan Geyser on the right whatsoever.

Writing that, I suddenly realize that I could make up a few Roadies, stealth through the left path and try to destroy the enemy's merch booths at her stage. I'll try that later.

Actually, you don't even need to do that much. The Tear Drinker sends out a small group a gravediggers (whom Eddie can easily slaughter by himself) to capture the Fan Geyser down the left path. If you leave it alone, she won't make any more attempts to take it for herself again.

Basically, do that, and you push early with lots of Head Bangers and Razor Girls, the Tear Drinker won't even make it as far as the Fan Geyser down the right path.

Finished the game. I enjoyed it but I felt like it was too short. It had a lot of cool scenery but nothing that made me out and out love it the way pyschonauts had. The second area of the game (that you reach after
fighting your way through the Cleave
) felt way more empty and uninteresting than the large first area. Apart from Eddie none of the characters were really awesome for me, except for Dovilicus, and that was probably because he was Tim Curry.
