DF Succession: Welcome to Lancerblameless
« on: October 13, 2009, 02:37:22 PM »

Some basic info for all of the players before we start pretending to be short fatties with beards.

The lastest "official" release of Dwarf Fortress is: v0.28.181.40d, which is what I am using.

This map is heavily forested, moderate temperature, has a river, sand, a magma pipe, flux, medium evil/wildness, and a crapload of nearby civilizations.

The area I chose is 3x3 and flat as hell to maximize FPS.  I didn't specify 'other features' on my area search, so this zone probably doesn't have hidden fun stuff.  We'll just have to make our own fun.

Turn order is:

201: Esperath (Completed)
202: Newbie (Completed)
203: Shinra (lol)
203: Doom (Completed)
204: Norondor (lol)
204: Zaratustra (Active)
205: Smiler

We disembarked from Advucar during the iciest day of the year 201, carrying a pick for every dwarf, some food and drink to keep us through the first few months, and enough logs to give simultaneous heart attacks to everyone in a mid-sized elven civilization.

As expedition leader, I could have chosen a hundred excellent trained miners, but I feel that is unnecessary.  Being DWARF is sufficient training to dig into the bounteous earth.  Instead, I brought a talented carpenter, a skilled stonecrafter and fieldsdwarf, a weaponsmith who knows his booze, an armorsmith who also knows how to coax the plump helmets from the rough soil, a mason with considerable mechanical skill, an animal caretaker and leatherworker, and myself.

I, of course, won Advucar's Literal Iron Chef three years in a row.  As per tradition, the secret ingredient was always iron.  My exquisite ferrous dwarven cheese roasts were unequaled.  I fully expect traders to leave with word of the most delicious, nonperishable, ore-laden roasts that the world has ever seen.

But now, it is time to dig!  Let us strike the earth with our piss-poor copper picks and revel in everything that is dwarf!

There's only one solution: Magma the entire world.

Maybe if you give it to the Carp they will spare us.

having the assets for steel this early is a pretty good sign that we are going to have an invincible fortress by year three

remember not to give them weapons until they're GM wrestlers please, I don't want an army full of one armed dwarves.

The first sleep arrives, but no one gets beds until they dig out their own bedrooms like REAL dwarfs.  You see those nice beds in that stockpile?  THEY'RE ONLY FOR SHOW, GET BACK TO WORK.

8th Malachite: RED GOLD

 :perfect:

Now uh, let's get that walled up before we kill ourselves.  Unfortunately, generations of inbreeding have produced civilizations of dwarfs who can't feel fire, but can still definitely die from it.

Well, uh, crud.  Looks like the flow of the magma managed to force a fire imp through the cracks of a fortification barrier that I placed.

On the way out, the dwarven caravan encountered the CARP.

Looks like the hammerdwarf managed to escape...this time.

However, the monkeys were not so lucky.  CARP 4eva

A note to Newbie: this is the dwarven request list for the 202 caravan.  Armor is selling at a mad premium, so kobold/goblin loot may sell well, and hopefully I'll have a (safe) magma economy going by then, so you can use up some of that iron.

7th Timber: Our ranks have swelled with some 9 plebs.  Some claim to have skill, but their ability is piddling at best.

We'll make real dwarfs out of them yet.  The seasoned veterans hand over their picks and tell the newcomers to dig their own rooms.
