Finally got around to finishing Awakening.  Again, can't really afford DLC right now, but once I can, what's worth checking out?  I hear the one where you play the attack from the Darkspawn side is fun, and I like the sound of the Morrigan/Leliana/Golem ones.  Which I guess is everything but the Festivus stuff.

And should I assume it's all still got that icky install-a-service DRM thing going on?

It just installs directly from the in game interface once you buy it off the EA store. I guess it's evil for you to have to have an account with EA to buy and install it, but they have to keep track of their customers somehow. I bought all the DLC and for the most part it's pretty disappointing. Leliana is good if you REALLY like Leliana and want to know more about how she came to be in Feralden and the Chantry, and Morrigan is good if you want some possible resolution of that story arc, but they're both terribly short. Golems of Angarak is a good adventure, but you don't get your party, and it's mostly there to be soul crushingly difficult. Pick your poison, if you choose, but keep in mind that all the DLC except for awakenings, which is long and totally worth it, are short, and probably not worth the price. I suggest you buy Mass Effect 2 DLC instead because it's pretty clear where their DLC team's attention was.

Morrigan DLC (Witch Hunt) is supposed to give you a carryover save for DA2. But this is only useful if you are interested in acquiring DA2... Oh, andyou've chosen your actions in such a way that there aren't any bugs in how the game has recorded your decisions!

Right, but I remember an old DRM thread where somebody said that the DLC adds a Windows service that phones home.  In which case I'd still be willing to pay for it but I'd install a cracked version instead of the official one.

Makes sense given that DA got a full-blown expansion.  Which was neat!

The main dragon age disc or download or what have you installs the service, it phones home when you log in to the ea/bioware thing on the main screen and then checks to see if you're authorized to run the DLC. You only need to do this once, so you can avoid logging in from there on.

It's called daupdatersvc in windows, but it really doesn't run all the time.

Felicia Day to do Dragon Age Web series; BioWare sure loves using the word "Redemption" to title its spinoff media.  Trailer should be up next few hours.

Dragon Age II available for pre-load on Steam, and available to play in a mere four days. Three and change, really. I am ready to chop every Qunari in half.

Pre-load finished while I slept, and now the traditional pre-load torture begins. The icon, sitting there, mocking me.

you're actually much farther; your completion is being divided by the number of copies you bought.

I'd appreciate it if someone who were less afraid of spoilers could check out what transfer data actually does for you.

"I'll just save all these side quests for later. Like the side quests on that Chantry board in Lothering."

[Lothering has been destroyed by the dark spawn]

Fuck.

The best part is two of the quests you get in Lothering will probably be the last ones you finish before beating the game.

i swear to Evil God

Apparently it was leaked but really hard to crack. They cracked it yesterday night.

I'm still slowly trudging through my DA1 playthrough. My dwarven 2h warrior is now in the home stretch, with only the dalish quest, denerim and the wrapup to go. I never managed to beat DA before, and I'm only going through the trouble because I sorely want to import into DA2. The pacing of this game is horrible and I've never played a bioware game where I liked combat less. It's nice when it;'s the occasional epic battle, but if I ever have to trudge through a segment like the deep roads in a game ever again I'll gouge out my own eyes.

to my knowledge, in DA2, wizards don't freeze/chainstun your party members anymore and spiders don't have an AOE web. It's like fucking christmas. I haven't been so happy about a quality of life improvement in an RPG since I found out Dungeon Siege wouldn't have poison effects.
