I don't know, despite Bioware's best efforts to make him incredibly evil and unlikable, I really liked Loghain and there is some real depth to his character if you look for it.

Objection:
Bioware tried really hard to make me feel guilty about desiring the death of Loghain. And failed. Loghain is deep as a mud puddle. His pride kept him from using the army that could have helped save them all, wah wah I don't care. And I lost my cool character Alistair. I did like how neatly the ritual traps him, but it's insipid to assume he'd suddenly NOT be a power-hungry bastitch just because he can sense tainted monsters.

I liked this game, but Two Worlds II did a better job of 'please excuse our evil tyrant, he's actually being useful.'

Is sexing the swamp witch the casual ending? Are casual gamers still the worst people? Why did fucking Morrigan feel like a punishment? Was I supposed to date the religious girl, because that wasn't as hot to me for some reason maybe i'm a goth but GOD DAMN that voice acting makes my skin crawl
It had nothing to do with pride and everything to do with watching Orlesian chevaliers rape (and kill) his mother in front of him. Loghain was not a fan of Orlais for a reason and he had no desire to see them take over the country he fought to free. He felt like it was an affront to the fereldan dead and everything he and Maric worked for. Everything Loghain did, he genuinely felt was the right thing to do - when you confront him about it, he even admits that the plan was horrible but it was the only alternative - Loghain felt like it was better for Fereldan to be consumed by the blight than to suffer under Orlesian rule. And he had every reason to believe the Orlesians would try to sieze power after the blight, as they'd have the largest army in the land and likely support from the templars and the chantry. Ferelden would not have maintained their independance.

So... you don't like Loghain because he didn't do a good job of being a usurper and slaying you? Got it, G. Got it.

I don't know if the "Dark Ritual" achievement is the casual ending. But don't worry, casual gamers are still the worst people.

Dark ritual is the implied canonical ending.

Implied by SPOILERS TO DA:2, or implied by something else?

There is no "canonical" ending as far as I can tell, the second game imports your ending from the first one.

Also if you haven't played the first one the game gives you 3 different origins ending scenarios. But the human protagonist ending scenario does involve the ritual?
Is that what you mean Shinra?

EDIT:
I am also hearing some bugs re: transfers, which has me a little bit put-off on how to handle this stuff.

What I mean is that story bits in Dragon age II don't make a lot of contextual sense if you didn't follow the Dark Ritual ending, or at least open it up. Also, the events on Awakening and Witch Hunt happened after the events of Dragon Age, and while using the other origins alters history, it does so in an incredibly hamhanded way. At the very least, Morrigan is implied to have been given the black grimoire, and that flemeth's grimoire was taken from her by force.

Bioware is pretty good about not slobbering canon all over everything, but it's pretty clear that morrigan leaving with the warden/archdemon child is what they wanted to go with. It's also the choice with the most long term implications. Don't be surprised if it gets handled in a book.

If eloH didn't shit in your NWN design lunch bag, and had you scored a BioWare interview without having played PS:T or BG2, a giant fist would have come out of the sky and turned you to paste.

Actually, in the end eloH had no impact and I scored third place in the community voting; it's just that the "could become your career" fanfare was pretty overblown.  AFAIK nobody actually got hired off the thing.

I DID go ahead and go through a writing test a couple years later.  Signed an NDA so I won't go into much detail, but as a matter of fact I think what hurt me most on it was that I hadn't played Mass Effect yet, never mind BG2.

I keep an eye on their postings, though; I think if they let me try it again I'd do a lot better.

It's really not (fantasy mass effect)

SIMILARITIES
-pauseable action-based combat
-dialog wheel with paragon and renegade options
-turians
-you're commander shepard

DIFFERENCES
-worthless middle dialog option is now "snarky"
-swords!

...the internet fury is beginning to manifest.

Dragon Age II will win many awards for its writing

BioWare Presents: The State of the Game Industry

I guess I don't mind too much that I can't afford to play this yet.

P.S.: There's only
--two--
endings.

From what I've seen briefly visiting bioware's forums, the complaints about the game can be summarized thusly:
10% Console users complaining they don't have an autoattack feature.
10% PC Users complaining they don't have camera options.
10% The heart icon removes any chance of failure from any romance option in the game.
10% You can't dialogue with your party members outside of predefined living quarters hotspots.
60% I AM A GIANT IDIOT WHO CONFLATES ARTIFICIAL INCONVENIENCE FOR DIFFICULTY, THE REMOVAL OF WHICH MEANS I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GAME AGAIN

As I currently do not have the game and do not plan on having the game for a while, I'm going to be upset about SecuROM.

You sure?  This is about it having it but not telling you that it has it, after all.

I like to think Gabe Newell would personally take a massive dump on EA's porch if they tried that.

I am angry because bioware is allowing me to fight a group of spiders and wizards without my entire team getting frozen solid every 15 seconds of combat

I am so angry

I am mad
