I certainly don't remember there being a spell or boss power (ok maybe dragon chomp comes close) that just wastes you in one shot, no save. And Imprisonment is worse even than that implies, because it's a non-standard death and the character just gets expelled from the game, so either you bring a rare scroll of an obscure spell to free them or reload until you get off Melf's Acid Arrow first and hope to Jesus that the DoT interrupts the fucker.

The terrifying damage dealing powers of mages can be "easily" dealt with through a little application of templar and anti-magic skills. Of course, there is still a bit of what Norondor mentions in actually being able to negate their magic. Plus the difficulty of evading the meatshields.

Fuck you too Ogre.  Okay playing mage takes a bit more thinking than I thought.

The ogre is the first monster whose mental resistance is low enough that a mind blast will stun it for a significant* length of time. You should also have an archer with pinning shot, who should use it immediately.
You will also benefit significantly from using grease and having all of your warriors use bows until it finally closes. Finally, ogres (I think) have a low defense score, so even your mage will be able to go toe-to-toe with them and score hits on melee while dual wielding buffed magic weapons. You should also be using any passive skills that boost damage even if its at the expense of attack.

*More than just one turn, but even one turn can make the difference.

T Norondor

Did you go through the optional Tower thingy in BG2x? That place basically had a Lich with FULL CONTINGENCIES AND FIRST CAST ALWAYS CAST IMPRISONMENT ON YOUR HERO around every single goddamn corner.

Oh, uh... wigglerax, or whatever? Is this the one in the sewers, with the lich/eye tyrant/elder vampire triple team that you can access by clicking on something that doesn't look like you shouldn't click on it, or the one at the docks in Amn that you can access by clicking on something that doesn't look like you shouldn't click on it? Because either way, the answer is more than likely "yeah, but i cheated, because it made me real mad."

Also evidently the same stupid lich is actually in DAO, too. Oh, Bioware.

Ogres also freeze very readily, even just to the base frost spell. Cone of Cold will actually freeze god damn anything, including the Great Dragon. That'll learn ya to chew on my golem.

also you can rogue stun ogres.

Fuck Warden's keep. who the fuck thought it was a good idea to make an area with valuable loot/skills in it become inaccessible after you beat it? And not for any fucking reason either. It's not like shit collapsed or exploded or anything. I just arbitrarily can't go in there anymore.

Yeah, I don't get that either. I got my life tap the first time through though, so I'm fine, except that I failed to find all the history pieces for that part of the area.

Are there more than two spells you can get there, or.

On a somewhat related note, I about shit my pants the first time I used that spell. "Trade some life for a moderate amount of mana" does not translate to "Slit your own throat complete with anime blood spray for moderate amount of mana"

Are there a LOT of npcs to recruit?  Or is it just that I am still early in the game?

I think I'm about 70 percent of the way through and I have like 8, and I'm pretty sure I missed 1.

"Alright, you can either go on a tedious-sounding rescue mission, earning the ire of Morrigan since it is a waste of time, or you can kill the old man, making Alistair angry since he is admittedly innocent and harmless. WHICH DO YOU CHOOSE"

Fuck you, Bioware.

... You're pining for "You can pat a kitten on the head and let it keep it's solid gold ball of yarn that will vendor for more credits than the dungeon you're about to enter contains to gain +10 Good Points, or you can rape the kitten and take the yarn for +500 Evil Points?"

You can't have it both ways, dude!

It's not so much that I'm complaining about the nature of the choices so much as the presence of them in the first place. I don't care about this village or its zombie problem. I just want to go to the damn castle and talk to the bloody Arl so he can tell me what to do next (yes, I am being a wanker and complaining about a lack of linearity).

I guess I'm really whining because I'm torn between wanting to be pals with Alistair and wanting to see Morrigan's boobs.

the easy solution to that is to leave one of them at the camp the whole time. take with you whichever one is going to like the way you're doing quests.

and yes you're being fucking retarded for complaining about how the game has TOO MUCH content between you and the next quest
