The linearity mentioned is still extremely disturbing to me. No towns? Seriously? Will probably pass.
Again, this has
already been done, and it wasn't a horrible disaster or anything. Also just like TWEWY, the game probably does not features "towns" per se only because the entire damned game takes place in an urban environment. Believe me, you will not miss having to hunt down a shop in order to buy proper equipment for the area you're in.
The main complaint I had about CC's linear progression is that you could never backtrack, ever, at any point. The game eventually dumps you rather unceremoniously into the final dungeon, and you have no choice but to do or die at that point. As Rosencrantz pointed out though the reports say this one's more like FFX where they push you along the same way but at the end finally give you an airship to jet around the world in, in true FF fashion, so that's okay. It's not like there's ever really good reason to explore old areas until the end of the game anyway.
