Family cat called for jury duty, did not get excused by request for being a cat.

Two things come to mind:

1)  Chances are the court officer who heard that call requesting for the cat to be excused over the phone heard that one before.
2)  If the cat makes it into the courthouse, I will be disappointed dearly if the court's artist and journalists don't make the least effort to put a white caption on the photo or sketch.

People objected to Gandalf smoking up, as I recall.

Audiences experience 'Avatar' blues

Quote
"When I woke up this morning after watching Avatar for the first time yesterday, the world seemed ... gray. It was like my whole life, everything I've done and worked for, lost its meaning," Hill wrote on the forum. "It just seems so ... meaningless. I still don't really see any reason to keep ... doing things at all. I live in a dying world."

You know, as much as I agree there's plenty of shit in this world, I find it hard to believe that none of the people on these forums live within half an hour's drive of tremendous natural beauty that would blow their minds were they to pay even the smallest amount of attention to it. These folks should get out of town. Literally.

"Ever since I went to see 'Avatar' I have been depressed. Watching the wonderful world of Pandora and all the Na'vi made me want to be one of them. I can't stop thinking about all the things that happened in the film and all of the tears and shivers I got from it," Mike posted. "I even contemplate suicide thinking that if I do it I will be rebirthed in a world similar to Pandora and the everything is the same as in 'Avatar.' "

Mommy, where do otherkin come from?

If they did, they'd be within spitting distance of some sort of lake.

In recent years, severe pollution and other problems have drawn attention to Lake St. Clair, a groundswell of local activism to the threats it faces. Urban sprawl, sewer overflows and invasive species have severely affected the lake. Dangerous levels of bacterial contamination along the shores have resulted in beach closures and other public health concerns, while zebra mussels and other invaders threaten native species and sometimes cause physical damage through their sheer numbers.

But I'm sure its beautiful....

I can say from experience that it's perfectly possible to be situated in a place where it takes at least an hour of slogging through traffic to come out from under a blanket of smog.

Still, that's one hour.  Orange County is still very pretty, if a little infested with Terrans.

Yeah, it takes at least an hour to get out of Toronto to somewhere out of the smog blanket.

There are however a few nice places under the blanket.

Escapist ninnies piss and moan about a make-believe fantasy world being a make-believe fantasy world.

In other news, a 25-year-old man went berserk at the Irvine Spectrum, assaulting a crowd of people waiting in line to see James Cameron's Avatar in 3D. Eyewitnesses claim he tried to decapitate the guests with a plastic lightsaber while screaming about "Otherkin" between expletives. No serious injuries were reported, though the offender was tasered six times by security and taken to the county hospital and is stable but unconscious.

Also, Pat Robertson (predictably) blames the victims of the earthquake in Haiti for their plight.

8-year-olds, dude.

(Pre-Thad explanation: 8-year-old kid has the same name as someone on a terrorist watch list, and has been repeatedly stopped and frisked by TSA employees.)

Geez, it's the James Robinson mess all over again. The one where a commercial airline pilot, a lawyer, and kid so young that he didn't know what a "terrorist" was were put on the No-Fly list. Shockingly enough, none of those three were actual terrorists.
