I wasn't actually contradicting you. I was just wondering if that was a subtle humorous jab at my horrible sleep patterns.

Re: day-to-day maintenance, try not to eat carbs in the evening. They're more likely to turn into fat because your body is winding down (and later, sleeping). Unless you do an evening workout, which is fine!

Speaking of which, make sure you get on a regular sleep schedule. You'll function better once you get into a routine. Also, may I suggest going to bed before midnight? You get more quality sleep then.

I have a regular sleep schedule but the nature of my job excludes going to bed before midnight by virtue of the fact that that would mean going to bed while still at work.

You know when people quickly lose weight their skin gets all saggy and gross for a while until it tightens back up to the person's new mass?  How do you speed up that process?

You know... for a friend?

Not a clue!
My first guess is vitamin E and other stuff meant to help with the development of connective tissues, but after a certain point your body just stops giving enough fucks to go through with that process.
You could build muscle mass? I guess?

EDIT:
I am gonna need some mad workouts once I get fully recovered from this nonsense.

Form is super important when doing pushups. Make sure you're facing forward like the chick in the picture, and keep your body straight and level at all times.

Lower your entire body together until you 'break the plane', ie until your arms form a 90° or smaller angle, then push yourself back up.

Congrats, you've just done a pushup! Now do 99 more.

Every now and then you can really tell you're in the armed forces, your knowledge of push ups and push up terms is one of those times.

I used to do pushups, and I think that's one of the reasons my wrists are a damn mess (along with sitting in front of a computer for a double-digit number of hours a day for most of my life).

I wouldn't recommend it.  There are better ways to build muscle mass that don't put as much strain on your joints.  If you don't have a gym handy, I think free weights (even small ones) and elastic bands are probably a better solution, though if there's somebody who knows better than I do I'd be happy to hear other suggestions.

Hm. Now that I think about it, that might be why my shoulders are so messed up.

Take this with a grain of salt, as I'm just a layman, but your shoulder problems might have something to do with rotator cuff issues, which are pretty common. Coincidentally enough, the top post in r/fitness right now is about shoulder pain rehabilitation and prevention. Doing rehabilitation exercises might help with the pain over time.

As for thad, I also don't know if you're doing any wrist rehabilitation, or any wrist exercises in general, but that is something you might want to look into if it is affecting you in your day to day. Here are some wrist exercises that might help, which I found on this subreddit thread.

Anyways, blahblahblah IamnotyourDoctor/Physical therapist, and you know your own body better than anyone else, so if these resources/exercises are hurting you/making things worse, then obviously stop and maybe go to a physical therapist who can tailor to your specific needs.

Trying to go straight to the "full version" of those exercises made me really afraid for exacerbating tunnel symptoms. yymv and I am a gigantic fucking wuss though. It could just be a psychosomatic kind of a thing or I'm just so tense and inflexible that I don't know what the sensation of a pleasant stretch in the wrists is anymore.

When you're talking about the "full version", are you talking about the 5th exercise in the series in the wrist mobility exercises?  I'm asking because the series isn't a progression, you should be doing each of those exercises. However, if you're having difficulty rotating your shoulders all the way to face your palms towards your knees, it could be that you're just not capable of turning your hands in all the way. In that case, just turn it inwards as far you can without it feeling particularly uncomfortable. You don't have to look like the model in the photo, but you are working your way up to there. Anyways, you may be right in thinking that it can exacerbate carpal tunnel; I don't know personally. In that case, here's another post with other, easier, exercises. Considering the aversion to push ups, you may want to consider skipping the later exercises in the post.

"Full version" meant, in this case, doing a feet elevated push-up on my palms as described.
Even regular push-ups start me feeling that weird stretchy-pain feeling in my wrists after only one or two reps. I have to do basically all of my push-ups and planks using fists.

I can do more if I let my hands go a little farther above my shoulders than they're supposed to, but...
Maybe I should try it from the knees instead of the toes?

...I see what you mean now. I hadn't expected you to start from the pushup position, considering that shit's pretty hard on your wrists, unless you've already had previous training. Number four in particular, can be particularly painful on the wrists. Anyways, yeah, I would probably tell you to start from your knees, assuming you're doing this with no previous training. Ideally you want to hit a point that will feel challenging on your wrists but not painful. Remember, when you're training, you don't necessarily want something that will push you to your extreme, but something more difficult than what your body is normally conditioned to in order to "adapt" to it. So even if you feel like you can do an exercise more difficult than the one you're doing, as long as you feel the exercise you're currently doing is still challenging you, then as you do it consistently, you'll still be getting results over time.

I haven't been doing much exercise but I am now really committed to losing weight. My wife and I have some atrocious eating habits and are both sedentary. I work at a helpdesk, she works super part-time at a daycare, and neither of us get much opportunity to do anything particularly exhausting (except the obv am i rite guys) so we've put on a ton of weight in the last couple of years. I was at about 285 at the end of september and wasn't feeling terribly fucking great about it. We did some research and decided to go for a ketogenic diet, which has some problems and tends to have some proponents that treat it like a religion / excuse to go to golden corral and just eat 8 steaks wrapped in bacon, but it's worked out well for us. I'm down to 255 as of today, putting my weight loss at a whopping 30 pounds in 6 weeks. I feel great about it.

As for thad, I also don't know if you're doing any wrist rehabilitation, or any wrist exercises in general, but that is something you might want to look into if it is affecting you in your day to day. Here are some wrist exercises that might help, which I found on this subreddit thread.

They've been okay for the past few years.  I stopped doing pushups and found some keyboards and mice that didn't stress my wrists too much.  I did wrist exercises for awhile and used to wear a splint at night, but I haven't done either for several years now.

As for the keyboards and mice: I bought 2 MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000's (Ergonomic Keybaords 4000? How do you pluralize that?), one for home and one for work.  Bit of an upfront cost but they've both lasted me for some 6 years now; even if you don't put a price on the physical comfort I believe they've given me, they've still paid for themselves pretty handily.

(The Back button sticks on one of them.  Other than that, they still work just great.)

My primary mouse is an Evoluent VerticalMouse 3.  Pricey but it's lasted pretty well too -- a piece of plastic broke on it once and made one of the buttons stick, but customer service was excellent and I got it replaced with no trouble.  And that's my only gripe in about five years of ownership.

(There's a VerticalMouse 4 now that's priced the same on Amazon; I haven't tried it but it might be worth looking into.  They come in left-handed versions too if that's your thing, but I know literally zero people who actually operate a mouse left-handed, even among people who are left-handed.)

I've also had good luck with the Logitech Trackman Wheel, which for some goddamn reason is selling upwards of $200 now?  Jesus Christ.  I think I have two of those in a closet somewhere; maybe I should sell one, buy two of this thing that looks like it's the same damn thing only wireless, and pocket the $10 or so difference between that and what the Trackman's going for used.

I use the Cordless Optical Trackman with my HTPC and have no complaints, though I don't sit with it for prolonged use like I do with my other mice.

And my most recent job gave me an M500, which I guess is Logitech's basic corded mouse at this point, more or less.  It worked well enough for me that this is the first job I've worked since 2006 where I didn't end up bringing a trackball from home.

I also suspect that switching up the style of mouse I use between home and work probably reduces wrist strain.

Anyway.  On-topic: yesterday I donated a bunch of pants to Goodwill.
