I've had to leave guilds because of scheduling issues before; I've gotten into some really, really shitty guilds, but I've also gotten into some great ones. One of the best raiding experiences I ever had in wow was with a late night casual guild. There were a bunch of drunk Australians, and they were fucking awesome people. We raided at 3 AM. It can't hurt to shop around with the late night guilds and see if there's any you like.

This advice, while well-intentioned, sort of misses the point.  You might not especially care about that point, but you should because it's why games like EQ and FFXI got 500,000 subscribers and have held them for 8 years, while games like WoW and Maple Story passed that in like a month and are still growing.

Anyway, WotLK's success was the obliteration of the myth that an MMO needed large blocks of committed time to keep people engrossed.  Now that I think about it, WotLK was the only one of WoW's three phases so far to actually accomplish what it set out to do (casual players killed the Lich King on their own schedule while challenge was maintained for hardcore players), but huh bluh why don't you just say you want them to mail you etc etc.

Well, what I'm saying is that it can't hurt to go out there and try to meet some new people, and see if maybe there's a group of people out there that you like AND have schedules similar to your own. If you like the people you play with and six days a week you don't see any of them, it's not really useful to be in a guild is it?

I see some of them - including my IRL friend who got me into the guild - just about every day; also, I often (but not consistently) can play in a good timeslot, and then I see many people and maybe do a heroic or a BG with them or whatever. I just can't consistently commit to a timeslot because I work in a movie theater and oh look this week I'm working from 4 to 10 PM on Friday night, etc.

Actually, I've really been enjoying archaeology... and my primary professions aren't capped yet... and of course all the new content is just so damn good that I was probably going to get loremaster anyways.

Although I keep having issues with Uldum quests bugging out with phasing, so that might be an issue. (I assume that's the problem - otherwise, there's just some really shitty endings to some quest chains!)

I find it relaxing while I'm listening to podcasts to just fly around the world, hitting dig sites. There's nothing to read, and it's never going to fill your inventory unless you are actually insane, so I can concentrate on what's being said, while keeping my hands and eyes busy.

Yes, Archeology is the Audiobook Profession, which would be great if it weren't so insufferably arbitrary and was actually something you could come back to once completed, like any other gathering profession.

i was really hoping (and was sadly disappointed) that they would add new artifacts in with 4.0.6. Sadly, we probably won't see new archaeology bonus items until raid content makes them obsolete.

The patch is finally active!

Still disappointed that flight paths between Badlands and Ironforge or Stormwind City use a connecting hub on the northern continental mass.

4.1 is out. Pretty excited, but I did just have to submit an email ticket:

Quote
I opened a ticket regarding Bwemba's quest line Stranglethorn Vale: I had just checked in with the trolls @ SW Docks and was sent to Fort Livingston. I had my hearth set up in Booty Bay, so I hearthed and as soon as I walked out, a conversation started between Bwemba, Vol'jin, and Baron Revilgaz, after which Bwemba appeared with the quest turn-in question mark above his head. I foolishly turned in the quest, which caused Bwemba to vanish. I was able to go to Fort Livingston and kill serpents for the Serpents and Poison quest, but without Bwemba, I couldn't heal any adventurers. I opened the ticket, and was instructed to restart my client. Once I had done so, the phase was reset to its original state: no attacking trolls in Stranglethorn, no serpents, no poisoned adventurers. Jessica D (Nosphime) helped me try to repair, but after deleting temp folders and running repair.exe, I'm still in pre-patch Stranglethorn with no adventurers to heal and no spirit to heal them. Help!

Between this and the problems I had with the worgen starting areas, I'm starting to think phasing is kind of glitchy. Still, I've been having fun, so I dunno what I'm going to do when my gift subscription runs out.

One of my big complaints with Cata in general was that every other area you did a quest in would eventually be phased. Don't even try helping a friend out in Hyjal if you've already done it since you will just be a ghost floating around where your friend can see you.

Supposedly the new Hyjal stuff in 4.2 will have extensive phasing that will simultaneously always allow you to see other players.  Somehow.
