So, initial 4.0.1 impressions: Single-target buffs automatically being raid buffs?  Amazing!
Pitbull being the best available unitframes?  Fucking terrible!
Druid tanking is a pain in the ass with Bearclap not being learned until 81.
Balance is actually pretty awesome; I can pull almost 11k sustained on a dummy, but mana is problematic even with only single-target.  There's going to have to be a numbers pass.
I didn't bother looking up which of my heals was flash/regular/big, but it doesn't matter in the slightest at 80.  I have 40k mana and I don't drop below 38k.

Hunter focus feels so good.  It's weird steady-shotting so much as Marksman; the instant AiS proc and Imp. Steady Shot make using Arcane pretty worthless even at 100 focus.  Dual-specced BM but before I could play around it was already 2 AM IN THE GODDAM MORNING.

Ret damage is shit awful at medium gear levels.  Tanking feels alright but damage is really low there too compared to DK and Druid.  norn says healing is A+.

DK tanking looks really solid AoE-wise with a couple nice Blood Boil buffs, but I haven't tried it yet.

Frost mage casts fast and often.  Ice Lance is decent as an instant without a freeze, and was critting for 4k with DF procs at 73.  I was bursting mobs down like crazy as Frost after a brief and disappointing play as Fire.

Playing around on a couple lower-level characters, Recuperate makes Rogue actually fun to level.  Enhance feels lacking compared to pre-patch but I haven't played around with it long enough to pinpoint it.  Shadowpriest baseline Mindflay makes everything tolerable.

I was messing around with my 71 enhance shaman and found the changes to be nothing but positive. Rolling shamanistic rage's mana regen component into a passive, always-on ability basically makes mana a non issue forever, so you can endlessly spam strikes, shocks, tootems, novas, maelstrom bolt procs, heals and dogs. It reminds me of paladins in 3.0, but less overpowered.

If there was ever a time to ban people who announce they're leaving forever(but stick around), this'd be it.

So many people in trade screaming the equivalent of "I hate change!" There are so many positive changes and I hope the people who can't cope with exercising even the tiniest bit of thought in play fuck off forever.

Of all my classes, Warlocks feel the most the same. Hardly any changes at all.

That being said, the new stuff they did get is amazing. Glyphed Soul Swap?

hahaha.

hahahaha.

I'm totally boners for my hunter, but the only content worth his time is, like, heroic ICC25 and Ruby Sanctum, which no one else wants to do.

All skills, in fact. That hotkey does nothing now. Everything that used to be a skill and still needs to be managed in approximately the same way is (basically professions) is now an ability and accessible from the spell book.

I don't know if it's this way on your server, but on my server 95% of the bitching in trade channel is about hunters being totally weak and broken now. Their primary complaint seems to be with focus, which just seems hilarious to me, because why would anyone complain about being a non mana class?

Managing a limited resource vs hitting your rotation until the boss is dead? That's the heart of all the complaints: change is bad because I got really comfortable doing the same 3 button rotation for a year.

Meh, my standard rotation (which is probably, like, 90 percent or more of all survival hunters) went pretty much unchanged with the update. DOT, DOT, explosive, regen, regen, regen, explosive, regen, regen, regen, blah blah blah.

I love that my affliction lock is using the succubus and is pulling better. I also switched to drain life instead of shadowbolt spam.

The focus complaints are funny because the Marks rotation is almost unchanged.  The only difference is that you only hit AiS every other cycle.

I haven't tried it yet on live but I'm glad they didn't change up Survival.  I always found Lock & Load weaving to be pretty engaging.

I like how balance gets a talent that gives them great benefits for spamming Moonfire.

Also I don't know what Hellfire is, but I'm guessing it's fucking hilarious for demonology warlocks now. I don't think I've ever seen "channel while moving" abilities before.

So this sounds like a suspiciously good time to start playing again, but I think I'd want to try a lot of classes, and I haven't been keeping up with Cataclysm information since they canceled the archaeology profession. Is leveling going to get any faster/easier/better once Cataclysm comes out, or is now as good a time as any to roll up some new characters?

Jesus my mage was doing 30k burst on halion.

Edit: 2) We think mage dps is too high, especially Fire, and will be nerfing it.

Moonfire spam with IS up and using Shooting Star procs is about 7k DPS self-buffed.  It's nothing great but it's a nice PvP boost and helps with boss movement phases.

I would definitely hold off on leveling new classes from 1.  If they're 58+ go ahead, as Outland and Northrend aren't changing, but aside from the new alt-super-friendly talent system 4.0.1 hasn't added anything yet.  You still don't have revamped 1-60 zones and quests.  It's been a hard temptation for me to hold off, though, and I'm not even really an "alt guy."

So there is this great bug with warlocks in pvp. If you bane of agony someone and theres still time left. IF they ended up ressing immediately bane of agony will continue to tick on them. causing instant death in the graveyard. Best patch ever.

Archaeology wasn't cancelled, the alternate advancement component was removed. Blizz said there was balance issues and they didn't want to make the archaeology grind mandatory, but I imagine it had a lot more to do with them not having enough time to make it work. Archaeology is still in, and has quite a few nice things, most of which are just toys, but a few bind on account items that seem worthwhile if you alt a lot like I do.

Pretty much everyone I know has a new 1-60 class already planned out to play when Cataclysm drops. I'm doing a Troll Enhancement Shaman, because new troll capital is awesome.

Burrito: Could always do a nostalgia alt. You've got until December 7th before they redo Vanilla. Of course, my first word of advice to any alt would be "go to the Dranei/Blood Elf starter zones" so it's probably best to just wait for the 7th...

If you have any prior 80, you could always go set-up heirlooms, profession materials and glyphs for your planned alt.

Yes, my new character will probably be a Goblin Hunter, as I have all the Heirlooms ready.  I have saved the name Norquist for this glorious occassion.

I don't want to kill the Alliance, I just want to make it small enough to drown in a bathtub.
