Half the fun in that game comes from making builds that by all means should never work in a million years but actually kind of do.

This is the most appealing thing anyone has said about any game I have heard in a long time.
it is also a lie

:wat:

Considering the stuff I've soloed veteran with, I'm left to wonder what kind of wackity ass build wouldn't be able to beat the game, given proper execution. Unless you're purposefully gimping yourself by investing a ton in strength but using skills that don't base off weapon damage or something ridiculous like that.

Does anyone have some spare copies of Magicka? I'm looking two or three copies for friends. I've got Deus Ex: Human Resources and a Dota 2 to trade.

Looks like Ys I+II Chronicles is coming to Steam.  If it's "Chronicles" then it probably has that ridiculous "everything on heavy guitar" soundtrack, but it's still an option if you want to play Ys proper and refuse to get the VC version like I've suggested.

EDIT:
Quote
* Soundtrack selectable from among the original 80s FM-synth, an early 2000s MIDI-style remix or a modern studio performance by Falcom’s in-house rock band.
  * Character art selectable from 90s-style portraits or more modern anime designs.

Shut the fuck up and take my money.

Niiiice.  Xseed's PSP version has this feature, and I used it often, because all three versions of each track were differently great.

Ten bucks says Zalem's "retro" portrait will just be her modern portrait with bigger hair.

Ys had alway been one of those series I didn't pay any attention to, until I got Origins and Oath in Felghana during a Steam sale. Now this just makes me hope more remakes will be coming to PC in chronological order. I don't dig the games' tendency to be all, one level's worth of grinding is the difference between having a reasonable chance at killing a boss and "everything you do does 1 damage and the boss can two-shot you lol", but overall it is still good times.

Man oh man you're going to love the start of this game then.

Also I found out that "90s style character portraits" just means the ones they've been using since Eternal.  The new Chronicles ones look about the same except everyone now has special eyes.  Including Zalem.

...mmmaybe I'll just wait until it's on sale, heh.

YS UPDATE: The achievement for measuring Tarf is EXACTLY what I had hoped for.

Also, more people have gotten that achievement than the one for finishing Time Attack.

Weekend deals:

Steam proper has

Mark of the Ninja for $5 which I did and so should you.
War of the Roses for $5 and fuck that game and everyone who made it. Pretty sure it's still a broken mess but even if not just save the money for Chivalry if you're interested.
Cave Story for $2.50 for today but you probably already have it if you would want it.

Green Man has:

Last Remnant for $3.75 and I honestly can't tell if even that is worth it. Is any aspect of that game actually fun? It seems like one big grind from everything I've read and watched.

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

Last Remnant has a pretty cool combat system, but yeah if you're not a big fan of FFXII style hunts then you should probably stay away.

Me, I'm eying Capsized, but it'd be nice if I could get a half hour in my day to try the demo.  12-hour days whoo.

Natural Selection 2 is 50% off until the third. I don't know why it isn't on the front page, but here it is

Not as glorious, but Resident Evil 5 for $4.  Today's voucher is GMG20-P4DLK-FKYRS.  On the off-chance that somebody hasn't used GMG before, I changed that to a referral link.
