Now that the big lug is asleep, I can go back out! Yay me.

Meanwhile, my obviously an alcoholic friend went completely benders and got offended when the entire, largely stone sober, party told him to slow his party the fuck down.

So, equal parts boring and annoying I guess.

Sorry to hear that. I'm personally not willing to intercede in a fight against addiction unless directly asked by either the person in question or by directly related family. Ostensibly because I shouldn't be making that judgement call for a peer, but really because fighting addictions is tough.

Breaks your heart when a guy is practically begging for another drink after saying "This is the last one, I promise" for each drink for the last three drinks.
A "drink" at this party was at least 3oz. of hard liquor over ice. So the guy was engaging in the kind of heavy drinking that could just up and quiet a weaker drinker.

Nothing happened, but... I have been depressed for a few weeks, and it's getting worse, and I think I should do something about it but this whole insurance and finding someone to talk to thing seems really complicated and insurmountable right now.

That's why there's the internet. So you can talk to people worldwide and be drunk.

Drinking alone because you're depressed is a generally bad idea.  If you can't find somebody to talk to at least find something to DO.

Biking used to be my cathartic activity that would invigorate me and clear the cobwebs out.  Can't do it so much right now between my asthma and the fact that it's currently 101 degrees out at 10 PM, but lately I've been putting in 45 minutes a day on a stair machine.  It feels good AND I'm down to the weight on my driver's license AND I can watch old X-Files on Netflix while I do it.

Anecdotally, I think people around these parts get depressed in the summer.  It's hot and it's miserable and you can't so much as leave your house comfortably.  It's rotten and I'm ready for this shit to be over.  (Ideally in a way that involves moving somewhere less miserable to live, but you play the hand you're dealt.)
