Oh boy, Sega selling you half the game at full price, fun fun.

Welcome to the future of gaming!

Sonic 1 and 2 are very bad games and people only think they're good because the 3D Sonic games are so much worse.  The end.

I'd argue Sonic 2 is a good platformer, Sonic 1 is boring, and Sonic 3 is overdone. I am excited about Sonic 4.

MASSIVE
DISAPPOINTMENT

Also...

(sup PSO, the only game in history to turn clunky-ass gameplay into a strength).

Is there a nostalgia goggles emoticon around here somewhere...?  Because dear god, PSO.

And at less than 1/3rd the price of the original S3&K at the very most?

The episodic thing is only a problem if the length of the first episode is anything shorter than Sonic 3, and if the environments don't progress nicely to a climactic final mini-encounter in the process.  If they charge $10 to go from the equivalent of Angel Island to Marble Garden Zone I'm going to be severely pissed, but there's been no evidence or precedent of that specific activity so far.

...though, once again, after all these years I certainly wouldn't put it past them.

How is it a remake of Sonic 1?  Everything so far -- granted, a very small "everything" at this point -- looks new to me.  Even the plot is a direct continuation.

ANALYSIS:  The grammar is a little fucked up in this.  Commas are misplaced and missing everywhere, and a hyphen intrudes where it doesn't belong.  Why the hell is "Speed" capitalized?  When Tails and Knuckles go as fast as he does, does that mean they're ripping him off?

(..."eggman"?  seriously?)

the sonic games have always been about running as fast as possible and then giving you absolutely no warning you are about to fucking die, and when you go slow instead they are the most boring things on the planet.

the whole point of the sonic games is to memorize the level beforehand so you look like a badass running through it

that's why sonic rules and mario drools

SEGA games in general subscribe to an aesthetic philosophy that really appeals to me!  There aren't many other games out there that have you running across the back of a giant whale, which shoots you upward with its blowhole and lets out a bellowing cry (as though to encourage you).  Rally Revo's Canyon stage has three fighter jets swoop over you with colored smoke trails as you transition from lap 2 to lap 3, and Outrun 2 is filled with some of the most breathtaking landscapes that have ever existed in videogames.

I've stuck with Sonic because the atmosphere is cheesy-bad in a way that hits the nostalgia-center of my brain with the force of at least 15 Knight Riders, and because the characters are kind of cute.  The first few Sonic games have amazing art (especially given the limited Genesis color palette) and are still fun to play every now and then, too.

So WHIMSY and NOSTALGIA

I can't fault you too much on that on account of me seriously considering picking up Four Warriors of Light whilst loving the fuck out of every gay-as-the-dickens manga romance series that comes along (CURRENTLY: OURAN) but MAN you can't tell me that you can sit through a Sonic game start to finish and actually conclude that it was worth your time!

At some point you've got to wonder if the whimsy you're getting out is worth the time you're sinking in. I see sonic in general as V. LITTLE RETURN for hours of repetitive bullshit poured in.

That totally depends on what you classify as a valuable activity!  Sometimes the act of experiencing mediocre or bad media is valuable in itself.  Modern Sonic games are like sitting through a Steven Seagal movie and counting the jump-cuts in any given shootout, or watching Gone in 60 Seconds with a close friend and likening Nick Cage's emotional speech to "car go fast. make happy!".  The LPs of Sonic 2006 and Unleashed in the archive are a testament to this, where even an experience like Radical Train is made worthwhile by a couple of friends bullshitting about it.
