obviously they didn't buy the game because it wasn't enough like Gears of War: make next game more like Gears of War

6) Buy indie games instead (but VVVVVV costs FIFTEEN DOLLARS and doesn't even have 3D GRAPHICS :( )
but you said 'game i would otherwise enjoy'. it's like they raised the import tariff on alcohols so your suggestion is to drink gallon after gallon of hobo wine.

Hi guys!  I moved the Assassin's Creed DRM conversation to the thread where we were already talking about the Assassin's Creed DRM, instead of the thread which I explicitly stated was not for discussions of this type.  Thanks!

...now write better posts or I will reconsider and move it to Jail.

Aaaaaand it's been cracked.  I'm still probably not going to play AC2, but it's nice to know the option is there.

heh, I recall an article talking about how the game was designed with tethering to online storage only and it'd be no small task to crack, yet a day later it's all for naught. :nyoro~n:

you'd think that SOMEONE would notice that even their supposed "strong drm" gets busted in hours and try something else accordingly

Why would anyone except this kind of agreement for a product?  Mostly because everyone putting money down is assuming they are buying the game, not just leasing it until such time as the game maker determines you don't need it.

It's a broader issue than just games, too, as it seems to be the operating principle between a lot of new digital devices.  We all remember Amazon pulling a bunch of Orwell books from the Kindle, and the more I use Apple's iPhone the more I realize it's not really mine, as to do what I wanted with the phone would constitute an illegal breach of contract.  Imagine if you paid for a car but had to keep assuring the dealer that you weren't going to put new upholstery in it, or had to call in every few hours to tell them that, yes, you did buy the car.

At least so far with the iPhone when they take things off of the store, you get to keep them if you already have them.  It is a little sad that that is considered "good" in the grand scheme of our new digital overlords.

I'm just waiting for it to become cool and indie to hate on Apple so that I can claim I was cool and indie all along.

Well, jokes about hipster trends aside, I really have always disliked Apple's smug jackassery.

They're the classic example of a corporation that has mastered the art of marketing rebellion. I'm no fan of idiot rebellious children, but false ones are ten times as irritating. Throw a megacorporation into the mix and BOY HOWDY NOT A FAN.

I like old Apple a lot--pirate flag over HQ, completely open systems, etc. New Apple where they control everything is kind of annoying. I shouldn't have to jailbreak my iPod to have an alarm clock that wakes me up with music work properly.

I don't really mind it that much--still got an iPod, still use iTunes constantly, still would buy a MacBook Pro if I had a cool two thousand. It's just kind of sad that their beginnings are being reversed so harshly.

And the DDOS continues into Monday, with the games still being nigh unplayable.

Assassin's Creed 2 is only out in Europe right now, for the PC.  It launches in the US tomorrow.  I look forward to seeing how that plays out.
