So yeah due to the fact that my character class in Oblivion is designed in such a way that I level up every time I sneeze I'm now forced to play on 75% difficulty or whatever. I COULD just dick with the slider until things are only barely kicking my ass but at that point you may as well give up and admit that the only challenge the game imposes is those crafted by your own psychoses. So instead I've decided to limit myself to single-click steps on the slider, which means the game goes from "instant-kill everything" to "massive rape" with a single stroke of the mouse. Like everything else in the game, the difficulty algorithm is desperately broken.
I've been bemoaning the lack of amusing bugs like the "random teleportation 5000 ft. in the air with messy results" one in Morrowind, but I did come across something kind of trippy. I did the one Fighter's Guild quest where you have to beat the asses of a bunch of goblins (although nobody's telling you that you're beating the asses of a bunch of goblins) and you've got three themed-weapon derps to shoot you in the back with arrows help. After that I bebopped my way up to the other side of the world and had to get myself thrown in jail for another quest. After sleeping off my sentence I got out and was suddenly surrounded by the same random NPC jackasses I had forgotten about. They weren't there for any particular reason, had no real dialogue and weren't even moving around or anything. They were just... standing there, in front of a castle in a town completely unrelated to where I had last seen them, without their armor on. Even weirder, they seemed to be having conversations with each other about the fact that they were standing around inexplicably. "Hello over there!" "Hi there! I see you too!"
