Wrapped the extra chapter on DQ4; still waiting on that copy of CT I bought for 40% off.  Played a little Witcher last night.

In the original version, the best way to get money early in the game was to play dice against Thaler the Fence.  Despite his reputation as a "pro", he was a piss-poor player and would frequently throw away winning hands.

They've fixed him in the Enhanced Edition.  Not only fixed him, but I'm pretty sure the game's actually cheating now.  I don't think he had a hand worse than two pairs in five games (not five hands but five complete best-of-three games) I played against him.

On the "plus" side, since this time I've somehow managed to alienate both the human AND the dwarven blacksmith, I don't have much to spend money on right now anyway.

Best demo I've seen in a while, possibly ever. I'm stuck at the moment, and supposed to be working anyhow, so I haven't finished it. At about halfway through Act 2, though, and I can't wait to see this on PS3 or something. Wii controls would be ideal, but I can't imagine sacrificing the slick graphics.

Anybody know the trick to 3:4?

I know I meant to play through all the Command & Conquer games in order, but some of these Nod missions in the first game are awful. They keep giving you ten men, three tanks, a buggy and no construction yard, then acting like it's fair when your only path leads you into ambushes against pairs of those ridiculously cost-effective grenadiers.

Okay, beat the demo and now whenever I close my eyes I see those little motherfucking colored lights flying around in circles. Good puzzle game.

I thought Nod got grenadiers, GDI got rocket soldiers.

I recall that my rocketmen always exploded simultaneously.  Perhaps as a result of me having a hundred of them in the same place (and giving each of them about twenty seconds of training).

Nope, I'm quite sure GDI got grenadiers. I'm being given soldiers and rocket troopers versus GDI grenadiers, who are identified by a blue stripe.

You can't pick them off individually because grenades are lethal against infantry and you're just trading troops. You can't rush them en masse because then more units take splash damage. You can't send the infantry first to deal with them, because that is when tanks show up.

You can't set the rocketmen on those, because the tanks either stay at the edge of tank range and you're trading tanks, or the tanks advance and squish your infantry, which is a lot harder to do when you try it.

Lithtech Engine Track Record

Shogo: Shit.

Blood II: Double shit with a shit shake and a side of shit fries.

Tron 2.0: Very quicksave-reliant but still kind of fun up until the part where you have to shoot down drones with 100% accurate hitscan lasers.  While other drones with 100% accurate hitscan lasers occasionally fly by to shoot you in the back.  When the energy recharger for the weapon you're going to need to shoot them down is directly in the line of fire of all five drones.  Although the stealth section with a wide open arena and enemies whose primary weapon is stupidly accurate and can only be deflected with something you don't actually have is a downer too, especially when your only weapons at the time are a taser and a shotgun.  So... yeah, it's shit.  But it's better shit than Shogo!

But before I could get to the part with the snipers again the graphics literally stopped working for no reason.  Like, mid-game.

:hurr::DOWNLOAD DIRECTX 9.0A AND ENSURE YOUR CARD IS COMPATIBLE

: I was playing the game perfectly fine before this and I have DirectX 9.0c, and I doubt that my graphics card can't handle a five-year-old game.  Especially since, y'know, DirectX 9.0c was on the install disk.

:hurr:: NOT MY PROBLEM

So yeah, we're going to file this under "shit."

So do all of Suda51's games have lots of naked people, or just Contact?

I do not think that Suda51 worked on Contact.

Well, it was made by his studio, so he at least had a hand in it.

Is there anyone out there who still uses the R4 or something like that for the DS?

I use it mostly as a field-expedient low-light friendly book device, but my room mate is goading me to download and play the new Fire emblem that's come out.  so far, nodice... ::(:

Speaking of the new Fire Emblem, out of all the games Europe could have gotten before America for a change, why'd it have to be the one I've been anticipating the most?

I think some of the newer games require patches to work on an R4 or similar device, which is most likely way more effort than you care to put in to it.

Not really.  Turns out that all I had to do is get the updated software and overwrite the old stuff.  Easy as Control-C, Control-V

Ohak: No One Lives Forever is an enjoyable romp through Austin Powers/early James Bond-inspired 1960s movies. It clearly doesn't take itself seriously, but has fun where it counts. The guards also will chatter to themselves about real world things for a neat little sense of "Oh hey, I remember mom & dad talking about that!" Some parts of the game are bullshit, though. I recall a few times a mission auto-failing if I was even spotted (Think Super Mega Ultra Hard Extreme mode of MGS), and in this game, being seen by a camera counts. You DO get audio clues for a camera, I'll give it that (You can hear it whirring as it focuses on you, giving you a few seconds to get the fuck back behind that wall. Later, you get a device to nullify cameras.)

Worth $10, although I think you can get it for even cheaper legitly.
I beat the entire game without any sound, and the game makes good use of audio clues.

Yeah, it's good thus far, though for some reason whenever I move the mouse too quickly (for the game) the screen whips around anywhere from 180 to 270 degrees, and no amount of finagling with the mouse options will solve it.  Very problematic.  Also, stealth is useless in non-mandatory stealth sections.  But you can usually tell that they weren't planning on having you take the quiet route by the fact that the guards all carry automatic weapons.

Also, I'm pretty sure that they were trying to have the whole "mole in the organization" thing not be as painfully obvious as it is (or as it seems), but hey.

EDIT: Found the section Lyrai was talking about.  It just sank in that it's a stealth section in a first-person shooter where you need to dodge cameras and guards to light wastepaper baskets on fire to distract the guards long enough for you to find the room to turn off the cameras, dodge the guards again and do whatall else.  In a Lithtech engine game.

Fuck this shit.

EDIT EDIT: MORE STEALTH SECTIONS AFTER THIS AND UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENE RAAAAAAAAAA :enraged:
