Started playing Iji.  Very nicely done.  Not sure what else I can say about it.

I think the only thing I disliked about that game is in the one section where if
you try to keep a truce it gets broken if you so much as brush up against an enemy
.

It's polite to provide a link when referring to free downloadable games.

I played through it once in Killbot mode and liked it.  Maybe I'll finish my playthrough in Nice mode later.

I've been hankering for a jRPG with a rapid, frantic battle system lately. So I started up Shadow Hearts: Covenant.

And promptly abandoned it before the first battle even begun. I had forgotten how dumb a lot of it is, especially in the first ten minutes.

Then I hooked my Gamecube back up to my TV and started playing Baten Kaitos Origins instead. BKO, by the way: really pretty awesome. Two-Thirds of your party are great, fun characters, the battle system is deliciously fast-paced, and it still has some of BK1's beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds.

Also, Guillo, one-half of the two-third awesome characters? He/She looks like Peace from Wizards. I think that's pretty awesome.

Haha I'm precocious!

But seriously, the game opens up with a female German army captain (in 1915) feeling bad for the giant monster that slaughtered most of her subordinates while she just stood there, slack-jawed and doe-eyed.
So, naturally, she turns out to be that monster's mother.
Clearly you are too dumb to get the Shadow Hearts series.

... which takes some doing.

DN demands realism from his JRPGs with floating continents, winged humans, magic cyborgs, invincible bosses and combat that's dependent on a deck of cards.

...

Yeah, I'm no good at this.  Maybe I need to take lessons from Doom.  :nyoro~n:

HOW TO BE SARCASTIC

STEP ONE: Have confidence in your ability to be sarcastic.  If you are reading this then clearly you have no trouble with this step.
STEP TWO: Turn the target's statement or assumption into a wild strawman.  Once you realize that sarcasm is exactly the same as committing a logical fallacy, you'll want to use it in every argument you have.
STEP THREE: Make sure the speaker is aware that you are being sarcastic, either by employing a snide tone, or adding a cutesy emoticon like ;) or nyo~ron.  This will ensure that the target of your sarcasm knows that you're actually a gigantic asshole and not a well-meaning idiot.
STEP FOUR: Now that you've finished successfully asking for it, relax and receive your well-earned punch in the face.

Follow these four easy steps repeatedly in every conversation, and you too can alienate friends, coworkers, customers and family members!

Where's the step that lets me do it and not feel bad for being a jerk to someone?

Dudes: I own all four games in the series. Covenant itself? I have (almost) soundly beaten that mother fucker into the ground (except for the Pit Fights. I never have the energy for the Pit Fights). I have climbed the Man Tower and was in turn made a Man myself. The Wolf Bout? Red Comet, motherfuckers.

Nevertheless, I will never ever consider
that big-chinned fairy, Kato, to be a proper villain, much less THE villain.
And I wasn't in the mood to deal with his stupid chin.

I have a Crazy Internet Friend who's trying to get me to play Everquest 2 via an absurd trial (full access to all current low-level content, and you don't buy the game afterward?), so I was wondering if anybody here has any current (post-Kunark) experience with it.

If you played it at launch or whatever, yes, I know, it was shit. I strongly believe in the importance of reconsidering games after they've been hardcore patched, which is why I still mourn Hellgate.

MMORPGs are unique in their ability to become substantially worse after being overhauled.

Yes I am still bitter about Star Wars Galaxies fuck.

My brother plays EQ2, and says it got much better after launch. It seems they rushed it out to beat World of Warcraft to release, which was a horrible mistake. Everquest 1 players moved in huge numbers to EQ2 and were quickly disappointed, but had been sufficiently dislodged that when World of Warcraft followed they moved there instead.
