Yeah, I've heard of it, but it had always seemed to be just on the other side of my line as far as subject matter is concerned.
I mean, the critters in Heretic are barely repurposed generic fantasy clichés, with your gargoyles and golems and skeletons and evil wizards, and I only know I'm in Hell because of all the lava. What I've seen of Painkiller suggests that it's taking its stuff in more of a grotesque/horror direction. I'm not a fan of gruesome for gruesome's sake.
But looking at some screenshots on GameFAQs, it doesn't seem as bad as I thought. I mean, it seems tamer than Diablo, which is still into my comfort zone, though I don't know how much the bird's-eye perspective has to do with it. Maybe I'll check it out on the youtubes when I'm done with the Hexen pack, to kind of give me a better idea.
Painkiller is the real Doom 3. Pass it on.
Well, I know for sure that Doom 3 is way on the other side of the aforementioned line, because that shit is gross, so, hmm.
Been playing Bionic Commando: Re-Armed and I just finished it. At least as awesome as advertised, but I'm not sure I'll go back for the challenges. I'm not sure I actually need to be that good at Bionic Commando.
Roughly the first half of the challenges are fun and make you feel good about yourself when you're done. The rest is mostly for masochists.
In other news, I'm done with TR: Anniversary and Underworld, and I just got Legend. Lara where have you been all my life? You still look weird but I love what you do.
I think that for a long time I've bought into all the media stuff that gave the impression that Tomb Raider was only popular for the boobs, but it's grown evident to me that most outside people have no clue that the games sell because they're actually good (well maybe only some of them apparently).
