speaking as someone who went so far to beat legend of mana with a ddr pad i think i am on top of the "Dear God, please make one more good one" pile

also spent more time than healthy on looking for some kind of good mana memorabilia but fuck that shit's expensive.

Looking back on it, I actually liked Legend of Mana. Balance and horrifying character aside.

I can see how Legend of Mana would be delicious fucking candy to a certain niche of players.

I am not in that niche.

I'm more OCD than ADD, and I still hated legend of mana.

Apparently for LoM's release, S-E Employees were given zippo lighters etched with rabities

I'm pretty sure a completely new team took over the Mana series after SD3; to support this claim I submit they somehow managed to make the Sword of Mana remake boring as fuck when the original game had more heart than a Gene Hackman sports movie

Sword of Mana was outsourced to Brownie Brown.  You'd think that'd be the explanation except

A) Brownie Brown was at least partially founded by Mana veterans and
B) They had a major part in the development of Mother 3 so it's not like they can't not suck.

Sword of Mana wasn't even bad, just aggressively mediocre.  Trust me, there are other Mana games out there which are legitimately bad.

Most likely though it didn't stack up because

A) Brand new development house just starting up
B) No official support from the publisher
C) Unfamiliar/ wonky platform (I remember vague mumblings around the QA office that the GBA games were more fucked up than usual)
D) Fuckin' Square remake.

As for LoM, it was apparently done as a sort of hybrid merger between the Seiken and SaGa teams which explains why it came out as a bastard combination of Mana's goofy charm/actiony trappings and SaGa's painty aesthetic/bottomless micromanagement.

...and that's that.  I swear I had call for another list here.

A) But I didn't.
B) You shut up, A.

I'm finding a lot of Scribblenauts puzzles to be solvable primarily using fighter jets, and helicopters with ropes on.

I put Sword of Mana down within like, two dungeons. Weapon swapping god old fast, everything was terrible, etc. I was riding entirely on Adventure nostalgia for that purchase.

Now Adventure itself.. I cried like a bitch when
Robot Companion died on the tower. Also maybe whenever a few of your other amazing partners died, I think it happened at least twice. But Oh God, that noble Robot. ;_;
I guess a lot of it is nostalgia (of course), but in the sense that I was 12 and FFA was the first game I'd ever beaten with a depressing ending.  SoM's crime was reworking it to get rid of all the existential angst.

Appropos of nothing, Dissidia's last boss is fucking cheap as hell.

So, I just started replaying SD3 to see if any of you fucks has a worthwhile opinion, but so far it is just as clunky and awkward as I remember.

also making the combat slow and less responsive. adventure was like zelda, and that's the way it should be, damnit.

Maybe I should try replaying SD3 too.  And using a faq so I'm not spinning my wheels as far as stat growth and skills go.

Eh, stat growth is easy.  Every class has a stat cap you'll run into well before the level cap, and all the fighters who learn spells will hit the INT or PIE number they need before they second class change and lose access.

Looking up everyone's classes is highly recommended, though.  And probably picking Kevin or Hawk for a main.
