I got pokemon rumble on a whim, though I was not intending to get it really, and Kazz and I had a lot of fun beating the crap outta pokemon.  I even unlocked mew because how can I possibly play a game with a mew in it without having that mew?  I dunno.  I can't.  That's how.  I even got a shiny in the first hour of playing, though unfortunately, you can't evolve anything and it was....a metapod.

I keep hacking at K240 instead of playing games. Yesterday I worked out the damage values for most of the ship-to-ship weapons, and some of the alien ship configurations. I also discovered that there's a limit of 700 ships in play at any one time, including enemy ships, so if you build a ridiculous number the enemy can't replenish his numbers. Or the game crashes.

Wow, I never knew there was a Snes release of DQ3.

Move this post to "Babble about a video game you AREN'T playing because rom hacking is like putting nails in your dick with the claw end of the hammer"

Sweet, I've been meaning to play the GBC version of DQ3 for years and this seems much better. What's a good starting party?

Merchant, Thief, Goof-off.

The standard party is with a Warrior or Monk, a Mage, and a Cleric, but any party you pick will be pretty fun, because the Hero can do a little bit of everything. For a challenge, bring fewer than three hirelings. A solo run is doable but very hard, because paralysis will be an instant game-over. One thing I like to do is bring a Merchant and change his class to something else ASAP, because Merchant spells are pretty useful and he'll have learned all of them by the time he is able to change.

I only ever played the NES one, 'cause the GBC just seemed to get retarded with temperaments and shit.  But anyway.  You're gonna need at least one merchant for the main quest but you don't need to level him at all.

Merchant, Thief, Goof-off.

Goof-offs have always sounded tempting. What do they bring to the table?

Basically nothing until you get to Dharma, when you can turn them directly into Sages without needing that book.

Until that time, they're strictly comic relief. They don't even follow orders in battle. Sages are pretty great, though.

I'll assume being a conceited little shit is your attempt to be helpful and explain that I (really blatantly obviously) already did that.

I patched two copies of the Dragon Quest 3 (J).smc rom (and yes, I tested the rom and it works) with patch versions DQ3 English RC1 and Dragon Quest 3 V1.1 with ips.exe (didn't load), IPS Wizard (gave me an error in french) and IPSxp (patched the rom, then froze at the DQ3Translators logo) and got shit-all except for some bitch getting snooty at me.

So, yeah, my DQ3 face is like this :|

Want me to email you the ROM that I got to work? I've only played it for a few minutes so far, but it works fine so far.

Haha, I was thinking of editing my post to be more polite, but I guess I cannot now!

Yes, that would be wonderful, Rosen. Do you have my e-mail already?

Was it an unheadered rom?

If you use ZSNES you don't even have to actually patch the rom. You can just make sure the rom and the patch have the exact same filename (but preserve the extensions - so you'd have dragonquest3.smc and dragonquest3.ips, just for example) and are in the same directory, and ZSNES will auto-patch on the fly. It's pretty nifty!

EDIT: Now that I think about it: are you on Vista? If so, I'm pretty sure you'd need to run whatever patching software you use in administrator mode, otherwise vista sees a program trying to modify another file and goes all ALARM ALARM VERBOTEN.
