You just can't go back and play old games expecting them to suck and then complain about them sucking.

I never liked AvP2's campaigns much. They seemed more like a pack-in for the people who didn't play multiplayer games at the time. I remember getting lost in almost all of the predator levels fondly. Of course, I got lost in almost every FPS in the 90's. The damn things were always built like mazes.

Bullshit.  Some people have built a career off it.

Never played an Ubisoft Prince of Persia, although maybe I have since this latest one (in dire need of a subtitle, like 'The Golden Donkey' or something) comes off as Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed with smaller production values, gunked-up combat, and COLORS.

:imagination:

However, the rainbow won't shine until the boss of a level is whooped, otherwise leaving the player to wall-run through drab temples with deteriorating infrastructure. Absent the stealth and plentiful violence of Creed (although running on the same engine), Persia instead finds it's repetition through the platforming itself. Once you've solved one jungle gym, the rest are easy enough to figure out.

The cynical Thief sports an American accent thicker than John Wayne, while your companion Princess Elika bothers to add weight to the plotline with tidbits of history and reasoning. Despite the initial overkill of tutorial hand-holding, there apparently wasn't anyone bright enough on the development team to bother adding on-screen prompts as to when you enter another level. Instead, they all seamlessly meld together, leaving players to check back and forth between their map, and Elika's magical - direction - marker - command.

The bosses, so far, appear to be comfortably ripped from Shinobi, and then given an unnecessary cel-shading treatment. Those are the initial negative impressions, so now I'll take some time to formulate positive impressions, which must exist, since the game is having no difficulty in devouring my free time every other hour.

All I know is that Brentai would hate this game because it completely removes creative suicide.

Aww, and I was looking forward to that.  The Sands of Time series gave you just so many ways to do a backflip into a spiked pit, reverse time to JUST before you took that fatal misstep, and flip right back in.  Again and again.

Yes I am trying to use that video as much as possible.

I'm debating with myself over whether to replay both Penny Arcade Adventures or to play Valkyrie Profile 2.

DECISIONS.

Valkyrie Profile 2 will consume your time. I spent 200 or so hours on it, most of it leveling up and finding items but it was fun and all the women in the game have gigantic asses, specially the main character but Freya comes second. Gigantic asses.

Another game worth playing is Wario Land Shake it!, I just finished getting all the treasures (not going to try getting all the missions) and it's a fun game. Not as good as any Super Mario game or Yoshi's Island but it still is among them in fun, just not as good. The music is great though and I would like to have the soundtrack.

And I also bought Odin Sphere. Another Norse game with gigantic asses.

Pretty dang fun. It has very good presentation and style anyway, as well as a sort of Pokemon-like appeal that is probably why I might buy it.

I got Silent Hill: Homecoming earlier today.

I like how combat is needlessly complex and difficult. And how the first firearm you get does shit for damage -- the first monster you deal with that's best killed long-range? Emptied an entire clip into the mother fucker, and he still kept on shambling around.

Double-Helix seems to be from the "Well, if one monster is ... than maybe five monsters will be even more ... !"

Also, I'm still pretty early into the game, and I already hate the save placement.

The only thing you should ever uses the pistol for is plugging the smog bastards right in the lungs, and then only when they are exposed.  Two shots will finish them off.  The shotgun should be saved for the huge fuckers that show up later.  All the other beasties are easy, once you know what weapon to use, and how best to use it.

The pipe will ruin a dog's day.
The pipe & axe are good for the slithery bastards.
The axe works well against the scissor-legged guys.  They can deflect bullets, though headshots are supposed to be effective.
Fast footwork (i.e. dodge & attack) works best against the guillotine-faced guys.  Knife works too, but is slow going.
The huge "Closer" style guys need to eat buckshot.  Melee will not stagger them.

The nurses are fucking dangerous.  Careful knifework will do the job, but don't get caught by their slashing frenzy.

All bosses, pipe or axe as appropriate.  Guns are for pussies.

The knife can do 90% or your work.  It's quick to attack and recover, and the light-light-heavy combo ends in an uppercut that will stagger back just about everything.  It will also make the last couple of enemy types you meet near the end a joke.

Yeah, I realized later that the Smog's were basically Zelda bosses.

I had to quit playing at one point because there was this huge chunk of the Cemetary that literally didn't load. All I got was some particle effects from a Smog.

Killer 7 is a weird damn game to start playing on Christmas day. (Not a gift, just delivery coincidence.) Of course, there's that fact that Killer 7 is a weird damn game period. I like it so far though. I got it for a pittance on eBay out of curiosity but I'm actually enjoying it.

You can really tell that it's the clay from which No More Heroes was shaped; it's definitely of the same stuff but cruder, rawer. Perhaps even stronger in a way.

Speaking of No More Heroes, one of these days I really gotta write about how I'm sure that the game is entirely about Suda 51 using references to Star Wars, Kill Bill, anime, and retro video games to stealthily tell the world how Metal Gear Solid 2 gave him an irrepressible desire to have sexy time with Hideo Kojima's ding-dong.

Speaking of which, did those two ever actually have their sexy time? The Project S or whatever it was that everyone was convinced was a new Snatcher?
