The absolute worst part about the final levels of Psychonauts is how it pretty much threw everything you'd just learned in the game out the door. Despite a heavily surreal atmosphere, it mostly consisted of precision accurate jumps while under fire and against a timer. There were few things that required the use of your psychic powers and most of the time those were better skipped anyway. It was just a mess of a level, complete with a rather unimpressive boss and Raz getting the Hyper Beam.
Rest of the game was
though.
As for what I'm playing right now, I currently having ongoing games of:
Earthbound - Quirky and fun, but suffers from some early RPG tropes such as additional characters not leveling before you get them.
Deus Ex - I never really appreciated just how huge this game is. There are a ton of levels that can easily take you a few hours each to complete, with multiple ways of accomplishing each objective. The shooting aspect of the game is rather shit, but the conversations and hobo exploding features are top notch.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - The first real Castlevania game I've played since the NES days. That's right, I've never had a proper playthrough of SotN. Brings back memories.
Final Fantasy XII - This one comes and goes, as the game is epic and requires a huge time investment.
La Mulana - This game is goddamn brutal. Quirky, and fun.
Eternal Daughter - Also difficult. I keep hearing people say about how it's balanced and fair, but the controls feel loose and the main character is made of paper.
I Wanna Be the Guy - Yeah, well, you know.
