Nick Simmons plagiarizes poorly
« on: February 25, 2010, 01:26:41 PM »

Turns out that Nick Simmons made a comic, and the art is copied from popular mangas.

More examples here

The best part is that the publishing company is in full retreat

I'm interested to see who's going to lose the most money out of all of this. Undoubtedly there will be a lawsuit along the way. I wonder if they'll skip the publishing and go right after Nick?

I don't know who Nick Simmons is, so I checked Wikipedia. Looks like I wasn't the first.

Never mind the blatantly stolen art, what an unbearably awful comic, period.

Tempted to go track this down at the local comic shop to pick up a copy just to see how bad it really is. Plus it may become a collectors item.

Flat out traces, dialogue lifted directly, stealing character designs down to the most blindingly obvious features...

It is not often you see such a star on the plagiarizing field.

Making the entire thing fucking awful was a real touch of dedication.

I'm never surprised to see an under-talented, over-connected brat get any manner of tripe published. Talk about avoiding the most colossal cock-block in the entire industry.

Like ideally that is why standards are so damn high or the practice is so archaic and dogged, but when you're "Gene Simmons' Son" and you can get paid to have a comic book publish, I guess you don't hold back on your free ride.

No really how many times is everything written about this going to throw in LEGENDARY GENE SIMMONS.

Gene Simmons's son is an untalented hack?  What a twist!

He's a DeviantArt kid who managed to get his fanfic published.

Fuck, good for him, really.

I bought a set of the comics, all 3 volumes for $13 isn't too bad I guess. Had to buy online, so I'll see them sometime next week probably.

A reveiw on Comicbookbin actually compares the artwork to Jack Kirby's.

It is not often you see such a star on the plagiarizing field.

actually it turns out that copying from manga was the status quo in the 80s and early 90s, but nobody flipped out about it because 1.) nobody had the internet and 2.) manga was still an extremely fringe thing that comics-reading americans were only marginally aware of.

of course, plagiarism among artists in the dc/marvel world is still an ongoing thing, it's not like it ever went away.

Alright, so I received my comics today, and an initial flip through reveals yes, it is as bad as it seems if not worse. There's a character that reminds me of Greed from FMA too.
