First TF2 Night: Success! A good time was had by all (and if you didn't have a good time, I don't care), until we met with a terrible remake of Well2 which quashed all our spirits.

Next time: an official maps only server?

Okay, time for a SMAC roster. I'm going to assume we aren't playing Crossfire factions, because... well, they suck.

Zakharov - Fredward
Morgan - Burrito Al Pastor
Lal - ZedPower
Dierdre - O. Hakubi
Santiago -
Yang -
Miriam -

Date and time to be determined when the list is full. Now, is anybody here familiar at all with Hamachi?

No fucking Unreal Tournament sounds thanks.

ctf_well not as awful as I imagined. May have to do with the fact that I stole all the damn intelligence I could find.

Definitely. Vanilla TF2 FTW.

Now, is anybody here familiar at all with Hamachi?

I've used it once. It was pretty painless, but then again another guy was the server I think, so who knows.

This went off pretty well, thanks for participating guys.  We'll set something up for next week.  I'll do more TF2, but I'd like to see some freeware games pop up as well.  Anyone know the name of that free, SimCity Multiplayer game?

I totally wish I could've joined the TF2 festivities, but right now I'm stuck with a sluggish computer with a shitty video card. Hopefully either that'll change soon or I'll be able to join in on some of the less graphic-intensive freeware.

The initial post entertained the idea of an Xbox 360 game night, and I still think having a few 360 game nights would be a pretty nifty idea (completely separate from the PC stuff, naturally, since there are far less people with Xbox 360s). I hardly expect anyone to want to play some of the games I enjoy the most, like Burnout Paradise or Forza Motorsport 2, but there's no reason we couldn't get a small group together to play games like Worms or Carcassonne over Xbox Live. I'd find that pretty kickass, at the very least.

Someone mentioned Rock Band at one point, which I will be totally up for one I actually subscribe for Gold. Which  :doit: well, it might be a little while depending on the job situation. My trial ran out a week or two ago. Blah. Meanwhile we can try to convince  :sharkey: to play, too *nudge* even though he won't sing.

I should read threads.  So that's why I found a fuckton of you on TF2 the other day...

Rock Band is one of those games I'm totally on the fence about, due to its price, the space I'd need to set everything up, and worries I might disturb my neighbors playing the drums. Still, I've always wanted to try playing drums in a completely harmless and entertaining scenario, and Rock Band sure fits that bill. If three or four people had it, online play would be pretty wicked.

Then again, all depends on response and willingness around these parts. We may have to split the 360 party pandering into its own subject to see the full extent of people interested in playing.

Won't do rockband, but I've got Forza 2, and I've been eying Burnout Paradise, due to some peer pressure from some unruly Canadians I hang out with.

More TF2 is also perfectly viable.

Whatever.  TF2 is great, soldat is good, Hidden is fun if there's few enough players to give the invisible guy a chance at winning... hell, even fucking scrabble would be fine.

I don't think I would enjoy Starcraft or similar games though, unless there's some way to set it up so that I can keep watching after I inevitably lose.

 :fail:

tired of people thinking of Hidden as a team game

You're competing with everybody else.  You get 2 points for killing the Hidden, and one point for each kill you get as the Hidden, and the highest score at the end of the map wins.  The Hidden's reward for winning is another round as the Hidden, which is a chance to get a higher score.  The Hidden is not supposed to win half the time.

Remember, tomorrow is Game Night.  Current recommendation: Open Arena, though I'm open to other games as well as non-FPS suggestions.

Instead of Open Arena, I suggest something good, like more TF2, or CoD4, or something that isn't awful.
