So apparently adding by email establishes Real ID info and giving out the character name and code allows anybody who has it to put you on their list, but not the other way around.  This isn't quite what I was hoping for.

I'll look up what the correct information is when I get home.

I am pretty casual at this game.  Just wrapped up the campaign.  Can I have the animated menu on Char be my desktop forever?

Awww that was it? That was the ending? What happened to that cutscene with the nuke going off, or the Valkyrie flying between buildings, or that one with the hydralisk all gettin' shot through? You know, all the really awesome bits of the intro you thought you were going to see in some glorious set cinematic?

We had what, four actual cinematics the whole game?

I liked the last three missions but good lord, that game was like one gigantic tutorial, this endless parade of novelties. Really wish I hadn't spent 70 damn dollars on one third of an actual game. No way in hell I'm picking up the other two titles, I can say that much right now.

Ah well. There's always multiplayer.

Not once Heart of the Swarm hits.  Not if you want to play with someone who gets that.

you won't be able to play with people that have the expansion if you don't have it yourself.  most likely.  almost certainly.

well, all rts's do it that way when it comes to expansions.  I don't see how Heart of the Swarm would be any different but I wouldn't put it down as 100% definite.  Maybe they'd sell a cheaper multi-player only version or something, I dunno.

To the best of my knowledge, no mainstream RTS has ever done this before.  You might not be able to play Brood War with someone who only has core Starcraft but you can still play Starcraft with 'em.  For other games, buying the expansion doesn't permanently cost you the ability to ever play multiplayer without it.

In most interviews, you can tell that though they want to say the expansions will be priced accordingly, they have to leave the possibility open that each one will be full price. I don't trust ActiBlizz enough to be optimistic.

You'll probably be able to play Wings of Liberty with other Wings of Liberty players, but if you give a shit about the multiplayer, that will be no one interesting.

Except you had to have the original Starcraft to play with other Starcraft players. You had to have Warcraft II to play with other Warcraft II players - you couldn't just own Tides of Blood. Etc. Etc. Etc.

I get that these weren't standalone games, but the difference here is marginal. Buy the fucking game and stop being a huge faggot about how much you hate Kotick, guys. You were going to buy all three games anyway, so stop being irrational.

No, you won't.

When all three parts of the game are released, the multiplayer will be segregated into seven groups.  Those who own only Wings of Liberty, those who own only Heart of the Swarm, those who own only Legacy of the Void, those who own WoL and HoS, whose who own WoL and LoV, those who own HoS and LoV, and those who own all three.  You will be able to play multiplayer against people who own the exact set of games that you do, and nobody else.  If I own all three, you cannot play multiplayer against me unless you own all three as well - it's literally not possible to launch only Wings of Liberty and play only that with the people who own only that.
