This is true. In fact this is the definition of a casual.

Kayin's spot on as per usual and I hope I've conveyed that I'm not pretending I'll be balls-deep into MvC3.

I don't think you'll ever convince me that it was a decision of time/cost effectiveness to put Fox, Falco and Wolf into the same game, though!

At least it makes a bit of sense that going from MvC2 to MvC3, you can't just take any old out-dated sprites and make them 3D. Of course, then they added Trish anyways, so I just have to make a nyoro~n face and be grateful Mike Haggar got in, at least.

Also Thor rules.

Kayin can keep on hating for all I care.  I'll buy the game, maybe I'll find it frustrating that there are people who count frames and memorize move lists and want to be all FOX ONLY and shit.  In truth I'll probably just invite friends over to drink beers and play the game sloppily for a few hours every now an then.

But Kayin can keep on being annoyed by this activity that has no impact on how he enjoys the game!

That's okay, I'm fine with you being wrong as fuck. There isn't even a question here.

Also to everyone else, I got no beef with with anyone playing casual (in fact, anyone playing with a human being is in some way a brother to me). I'm not even sure where anyone (CONST) got the impression I said something like that. That'd be silly. But when people whine about who gets in the game because it's not some wacky and obscure character, I get bugged because they're not even really who the game is entirely for. There's plenty of folk from the FG community that are perfectly happy to see Akuma in the game.

At least you guys aren't like Talking Time, who are arguing for character unlocks.

It's the exact same thing. Their models in SSBB weren't taken from anything existing. They modeled and rigged and designed the moveset for and balanced Fox, and then they made two alternate models that shared the same rig. Tossed in a few new animations and tweaked them to be slower and more damaging or faster and less damaging. Not trivial work, but far less work than an entirely new character from scratch.

I am glad someone else understands that "copying" in games is often about getting more bang for the buck with limited time and resources rather than "not bothering". Yes, said time and resources are limited, even if your napkin math clearly demonstrates that Marvel or Nintendo or Blizzard make 60 billion dollars every second, because that is how every creative endeavor works.

Akuma's boring not because he's a clone but because Ryu is himself boring. Both of them have appeared in 50 hojillion games and the most interesting new twist either of them have here are their stage themes.

However, if you are trying to just say that the ease of inclusion is the only reason Falco, Wolf, and Trish are in the game because they're not really popular and who is that excited to see them there anyway, then yeah.

Then again I don't think Trish is even a clone, Dante has a bajillion moves and Trish's animations are entirely different?

Romo, I love you and respect your reasonable dislike of Akuma, even if I disagree.  :wuv:

And yes, in a sense, Falco and Wolf are not ONLY in the game because they're easy, but they're cheap and popular and free up money for other things.

As stated before, my observations are from a casual perspective. Akuma and Ryu both appear to my untrained eye to have the same shoto moveset and super fireball, with Akuma having the same cool downwards kick and air fireball stuff he's had since forever.

However, if you are noticing really compelling new stuff that's only caught by closely attuned fighter players, I'd love to hear about it! It makes me sad that the internet is so awful that I have to now specifically state that the previous sentence is not, in any way, sarcastic, nor is this one.

One can make the argument that Akuma is in the game just to please 13-year-old fanboys.

People like seeing their favorite characters go toe to toe. This has been true when Freddy fought Jason, it was true when Godzilla fought King Kong, it was true when Aliens fought Predators (both movies and games) and plenty of other shit.

The fact that this particular iteration of that phenomenon is a 2d fighting game with the potential for high end/interesting play is immaterial.

Yeah, but what does that have to do with anything? I know plenty of thug-ass black folk who LOVE Akuma (no, seriously, thugs love Akuma). Patito and I are over here, thinking Akuma is a cool guy, but we really don't care about say, Taskmaster. It also doesn't change the facts about the money issues Romo and I have talked about. Or does it change what the game actually is.

It's totally true, but it's also not terribly relevent.

Put it this way: Do you want to see Akuma's head get piledriven into the road by Haggar?  Yes?  THERE YOU FUCKING GO.

But thats the thing, we're not complaining that he's in the game. We just don't care. Not like... "MAN WHY DIDN'T THEY PUT IN SOMEONE ACTUALLY AWESOME OR SOMETHING THAT FITS MY TASTE".
