I'll be around if I can figure out how to do all of this DOS SHIT. Also if you could specify what time zone you are in that would also help thanks.

Smiler, im on EST. UTC-5.

I'll post a teamspeak IP and pass around 10. I should be able to sort out any issues there.

I think I have it all down pat, and now I'm playing some old school Doom with crappy midi music.

It really does.  I missed 3 Sisters Story.

That game is weird. I remember at the end of the fourth day or whatever the game asks if you want to fuck the loli and if you say no, which I did, the game enters a groundhog day style loop and repeats the entire day over from scratch as many times as it takes you to fuck her.

That was fun, but laggy plain vanilla doom isn't as fun as it used to be. I don't have a real preference for what we should play next. I have some good memories of 688i and Seawolf over the internet, but I think it is a bit too complicated for people to pick up nowadays. I don't know where I put my disks for them anyways.

Thanks to Smiler, Envy, and Makaris for helping me test out the server.  The lag wasn't too bad, but I think I can improve latency with a few serverside hardware tweaks.

DOOM is pretty vanilla, but I had a good time. It was good for a test run in any case. I forgot how lethal that chain saw could be. RIP AND TEAR!

As for the next attempt, there are plenty of options, and I can RS any game that I have listed previously.

One possibility that was mentioned was Quake.  GLQuake is a modern port that is friendly with modern graphics cards and I'm pretty sure it supports native TCP/IP.

Chainsaw is OP.

I'd like Quake or maybe Heretic/Hexen for some class-based silliness.

In lue of FPS's if we continue have latency issues, we could go for some classy WarCraft 2.

Ok, Quake it is then.

In particular, DirectQuake; the version most compatible with modern graphics cards.  This will allow Quake to run from within windows, without the need for DOSBOX.

To install:

1. Update DirectX 9.0c (I'm running Windows 7, and had to do this to keep it from crashing)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3

2. Download Quake

http://rapidshare.com/files/394169467/QUAKE.zip

3. Run DirectQ.exe right from the folder, no install needed.

4. Set up video options (can run in really high rez. I have it running in 1920x1080), user options (name and such), and controls (there is mouse support, albeit the oldschool style)

If people are around tonight I will host.  Let me know if you want to try it.

Can we get Sharkey to man the Astroboy in Quake II again?  I owe that kid a grenade straight into his stupid smiley face.

I actually went back and played some Quake 3 a few weeks ago.  It's still as much of a clusterfuck as I remember.

Has anyone figured out how to get Freelook/Mouselook to work w/ Quake 1?  Is it even possible?  I did the +mlook thing in the autoexec.cfg file but you still can't turn, and moving the mouse causes your character to move.

It seems I can only have turning OR looking up and down, not both.

I'll start up teamspeak around 9:30EST and let people trickle in.  Same IP/port/pass as posted earlier.

The game is Quake, the nails are sharp, the grenades are bouncy.  Links for downloads are above.

Hopefully a few more people will try it out tonight than last time, so spread the word!
