God, this is tedious. If I do a LeafGreen run or whatever I'm going to Gameshark myself a couple hundred Rare Candies after I finish Victory Road.

It was a long road. But I never forgot who assigned me this job, or the team affiliation I'm with.

So when I reached the Champion, I reminded him. I'm Team Fancy. I win with style.

So I used one Pokemon, for the whole match. Maybe you thought I forgot about him. Oh no. His debut performace would be the last I'd need. He was bred a winner from the very beginning. Who did I use?

WOBOBA-FETT!

Oh yeah.

Quick update: Brick (that's my geodude's actual name) is level 19. He also slaughtered tens of normal type pokemon.

Time to get pissed off at voltorb flip some more.

Edit: Congrats R^2. Now we need more players to make this thread seem less dead.

Well hell if nobody else is gonna do it I guess I'll just have to DO IT AGAIN. LEAF GREEN VERSION GO

The rules:
Rule 1) REVERSAL. I spend some stupid huge amount of time in every area grinding for levels anyway, so I'm changing this one up. Instead of taking the first guy I run into in any route, I'm shooting for the rarest mon available
Rule 1a) When calculating encounter rates to decide which Pokemon are the rarest, I'm combining the rates for mons that share an evolutionary line. e.g. when calculating rarities in Viridian Forest, I add together the encounter rates for Caterpie and Metapod, and those of Weedle and Kakuna. This doesn't mean I'm shooting for the best mon available -- did you know one of the rarest encounters on Victory Road is crappy ol' Geodude?
Rule 1b) If two mons have the same rarity in a given area, I catch whichever one I happen to run into first. So in Route 1, Pidgey and Rattata both have encounter rates of 50%. I happened to run into Rattata first, so FUCK PIDGEY MAN

Rule 2) If it faints, it's gone forever.

Rule 3) No active duplicates. How many Tentacools does one man need?
Rule 3a) By "duplicates" I again combine evolutionary lines. If I have a Slowbro and the rarest mon in the area is Slowpoke, I skip it and go for the next rarest one.
Rule 3b) By "active", I mean in the party or in the PC box. If my Slowbro faints, and I'm in an area where Slowpokes are the rarest mons, I'll catch a Slowpoke.

Now it is the beginning of a fantastic story!

MY NAME IS R2 AS USUAL
YOUR NAME IS DICKS BECAUSE LOL

Come on, Charmander. Your name is Burnard.
Route 1: Rattata F, named Benny. Fainted on Route 22 first time I used her. >:|
Route 22: Spearow F, named Rukh. Doesn't immediately die! That's promising.
Route 2: Caterpie F, named Absalom (as recommended by The Girlfriend, who just watched the new Alice In Wonderland. Ostensibly that's topical!)
Viridian Forest: Pikachu F, named PikaCHUMP. Aptly so, because it lasted precisely twice as long as Benny. Excellent name suggestion, Moebius!

I'm now grind-grind-grinding away near Pewter City, getting geared up for the first gym battle. Bizarre that all the mons I've caught so far but my starter were female. If this keeps up I'll rename him Dolemite and go around kicking ass with Dolemite and His Kung-Fu Bitches.

Current: Burnard, Charmander. Absalom, Butterfree. Rukh, Spearow.
PC storage: Nothing lol
Fainted: Rattata, Benny. Pikachu, PikaCHUMP.

I tip my hat to you R^2. but I haven't got a hat.

Once charmander learns metal claw I usually stop grinding around Pewter. Maybe my lack of early grinding is why I always play catch up at the end of the game.

Thanks Lady Duke but this is a Pokemon thread!

Everyone has to grind before the Elite Four. There's a huge level jump between the end of Victory Road and the Champion, even though there's only four battles between those two events. It's annoying in normal play and insufferable in Nuzlocke.

Route 4: Caught a Mankey, named it 2-Late. Bought a Magikarp in the Pokemans center and named it Rowe.
Route 3: This is where my modified rule comes back to bite me in the ass. Nidoran Males are the rare mons here, because of their 1% encounter rate. That's right, 1%. Mt. Moon isn't any better, as Clefairies are also a 1% encounter rate. I give up and forge ahead after my whole party -- Rukh, Absalom, Rowe, and 2-Late -- hit level 15.
Cerulean City: The Rival's Pidgeotto knocks out Rukh. Seriously, I have a Bug-type, a Fighting-type, and a Magikarp. Who else was supposed handle that bird? :(
Route 24: Abra, named Lucy. My current team is now a Mankey, a Butterfree, a Magikarp, and an Abra. If you'll excuse me I'm going to grrrrrrind until the deadweight half of my team evolves. Good thing, too, as Gyarados's Bite is all that got me through Misty's Starmie.
Route 5: Bellsprout, named Libertree.
Route 6: Meowth, named Penelope
Route 25: I'm such a :F I didn't even realize I entered a new route when I was on my way to Bill's house. So I run back here to nab a Pidgey, which are actually uncommon here. Also HOLY CRAP IT IS A DUDE I name him FriendZone.

Since Lucy is now covering Psychic-type attacks and Libertree can handle status effects, I swap Absalom out of the party in favor of taking FriendZone. And I grind everyone up, because Christ the S.S. Anne is always a slog.

Route 11: Drowzee was always my favorite Psychic-type back in the days of playing Blue on my old brick-style Game Boy. Since I didn't have anyone to trade with, I couldn't evolve Kadabra up, and having a fully-evolved mon seemed important. Anyway, I catch a Drowzee and name him Tapir, which is what I always called them back in the day.
Diglett's Cave: I catch a Diglett and name it Salsa.

I switch Salsa into the party instead of Penelope. Next stop, the S.S. Anne and CUT!

Current Party: Lucy, Kadabra. 2-Late, Mankey. Rowe, Gyarados. Libertree, Weepinbell. Salsa, Diglett. FriendZone, Pidgeotto.
In PC Storage: Absalom, Butterfree. Tapir, Drowzee. Penelope, Meowth.
RIP: Rattata, Benny. PikaCHUMP, Pikachu. Rukh, Spearow.

Still bugs me to no end. Maybe i'm getting old but I don't want to give the time anymore. I rather play Prince of Persia or Crisis Core and make some actual progress in ten hours. I did grind in Soul Silver like 8 hours and lved my Dragonite. Crushed everyone.

This topic is why I love the internet btw.

Grinding in Pokemon = tap A button/do circles on the DS pad in a cave with one hand, read internet stuff/watch a TV show with the other.

... In Nuzlocke, ideally done in a risk-free area with the good sense to bow your head every five battles or so and make sure any incidental hits have not added up.

Did you know that the only reason I have so many high level alts in WoW is that VLC media player has a toggle for "Always on Top" so I can watch an entire series over the course of 5-10 levels?
