Alright

In other news, suddenly I'm kind of interested in the 3Ds for perhaps no other reason than that I can't picture what this thing would look like in action at all. It's actually a really cool idea, the more I think about it, but I have zero idea if the 3D angle is going to add anything to games or if it would just be this aesthetic thing.

Well, the Kid Icarus trailer looked like it'd be basically unplayable on a 2d display.  Whether that means it's actually playable in 3d, as it suggests it could be, or if it is just a hot mess all over ... I feel like there's no way to tell that without playing it.

Pretty sure that video is outdated, since the 3DS at E3 only has 3D on the upper screen. Their specs also support this since the upper screen is two 400 X 240 screen on top of each other. Of course it's probably not the final design.

Nintendo 3DS - First Hands On

As expected, the camera just picks up a blurry image - it actually basically looks like regular polarized 3D when not wearing glasses, so who knows what super-secret Nintendo has invented to allow it to be filtered with the naked eye.  Probably something to do with polarizing the actual LCD lens itself.

My main concern is that hands may become very distracting when trying to view the thing.  Even in the worst case scenario, though, it's still a functional DS and a portable 3D movie player.  Do want.

It's a video of a completely unrelated game for the DS that does sorta kinda mimic the rotational view stuff the 3DS does natively.  It's not a video of the 3DS.

I seem to recall there being something about using the 3DS camera to locate the player's eyes, and orienting things thusly so it lines up.  That's the sort of thing that is basically impossible to capture on camera.

That video was for a DSi game that uses the camera to determine what angle you're holding it at. It's completely different from stereoscopic video, which can't be captured on a conventional camera or accurately reproduced on an ordinary display.

It displays two images at once, which differ enough from each other that you have depth perception while looking at it. Various things are intuitively "deeper" or "shallower" based on how big the differences are. It can also make images that appear to be in front of the screen, up to a point.

Beast mode in Gears 3 is co-op like Horde mode, except you play various locust fighting against Cog forces, the difference being you're very expendable compared to the Cogs in Horde (which apparently also still exists as a mode) and you can play as everything from a Ticker, which obviously dies whether it is successful or not, all the way up to the Berserker, which CliffyB described as "Instead of having the 'roadie run' it has sort of a 'freight train run' where it just smashes through everything". What the fuck, Epic. What's next? Blowjobs?

Man, Silent Hill keeps making me feel like a battered spouse. new trailer and information is out, and I like a lot of what I'm seeing, and a lot of what I'm hearing. I probably won't buy any of the tracks from this game, but at least the Dexter composer guy is getting a lot of use out of his human skeleton xylophone.

I have a feeling that a game like that would be announced at TGS first.

The GoW3 Beast mode makes me think of L4D's versus mode but with more blood, meat, and explosions. :perfect:

They look like Stranded, a lot of them. Wonder if you can pick them as characters? My guess is no, on account of them needing extra lines of dialogue and having slimmer frames (i.e. being smaller targets), but they could possibly trade off size with stamina.

Actually, it looks to me like it takes place shortly after Emergence Day, because there's all kinds of crazy COG tech still in action, whereas in each of the Gears games the sophistication of the forces has generally gone down to reflect the ongoing war, most obvious in the latest trailers and interviews, but these guys have mech suits and field turrets and all kinds of shit.

Why do Stranded have mech suits?
