I had a twisted fat on my team that was just absolutely annoying. Teleport capture run away. Repeat this process. Garen and Jax seem to be really good though.


Edit: Riot is giving out the best alistar skin for free.

Yeah, got that skin right away! Didn't get to try it though, I figured I'd give Nocturne a whirl on Dominion. Got only one victory out of four rounds, but I've been first or second MVP every time. We lost the last game with 17 HP on the other guys' nexus, and I got a score of like 2200 for 12 captures and 12 neuters; the next best people on either team had around 1800. It swung entirely several times and was insanely close for the last half. When I saw that the whole thing lasted only 21 minutes, it felt like I experienced some sort of weird time compression where fun times last forever.

So yeah, Nocturne? He's kind of a monster. Won a game with Lux too; it's like she was made for this mode, it's nuts. Gonna have to try Alistar next, he's gotta be really up there in terms of defense. I probably won't even have to change up my build.

Dominion is up permanently.

I just remembered an insight I had the night of a Dominion beta test...

With DoTA 2 coming, Riot has done an incredibly smart thing here. Not only have they released a really strong game mode, they've tapped into the subset of people who played -em exclusively in DoTA. A high-impact, quicker game mode that lets you try heroes that scale slowly. Really smart stuff with DoTA 2 on the way. Dominion also encourages alternative uses of heroes who flunked in SR(Motherfuckin' Shaco) and it's a more team-fight oriented mode that will satisfy death match enthusiast types and duelists.

Okay yeah, AP Sona focused on speed aura first is still amazing; played a game where we finished capturing the windmill before the enemy team had taken the drill. I had the highest combat score by far, the second highest objective score, I'm the only one on either team who hit level 18, and the MVP beat me by one point. Knocked Rammus and Xin Zhao off the boneyard, twice, alone. Not sure how that even happened. Rammus picked up a Force of Nature later even though everyone else on my team was AD, but it was too little too late.

Probably gonna have to look into putting Lich Bane on my build somewhere! Songs have a 2 second global cooldown anyway, so it'd be basically the best thing.

With DoTA 2 coming, Riot has done an incredibly smart thing here.

Now that I've got a taste of the genre I was taking some interest in Valve's offering, but with Dominion on the scales I don't know why I'd switch anymore.

Because it's not really a switch so much as a play both if you like both?

Even if you never play Dominion and only play Summoner's Rift LoL and DotA2 would be different enough to play both of them.

Well yeah, the games are free, so "switch" isn't exactly the best word. But I only got so much time in a day, and I ain't gonna train to get better at two differentiated-yet-similar games.

Doesn't mean I won't try both though, of course.

I'm still waiting for DoTA 2's asking price and what upgrades it brings beyond a better net/lobby service and graphics. It's a goofy personal belief, sure, but I'm not a fan of the way a lot of MoBA design has been to worship at the altar of the original map and never improve in any way. Riot took a comically long time to do so and abandoned Magma Rift along the way, but it's really good to see a strong spread of gameplay options.

I can play both, but if DoTA 2 tries to charge me $50 up front with nothing more than nostalgia appeal(Oh man, I can play a few Pugna/Prophet/Techies/Centaur rounds!), it'll be pretty easy to ignore it in favor of my goofy time/money sunk into LoL already. Granted comparing retail price to skins is silly, but I vastly enjoy LoL and like Zed said, putting good time into two MoBAs at once is a bit daunting. So I'm curious as to the entry fee to get in those nostalgia rounds, since Prophet was the best map control hero in the world.

If they've already announced DoTA 2 as free then welp OK then, see you on it later.

Can we all agree that MOBA is a really dumb acronym unless it is referring it is referring to the Museum of Bad Art and just say Action RTS now?

If DotA 2 gives nothing else, it gave us a non-dumb name.

It's an easy starting point, and not even the way-more-DotA-like-LoL has left the map itself alone, let alone heroes and items. The biggest problem with trying to move away from it is that even though LoL especially has garnered its own new playerbase a ton of people who play LoL started with DotA and WANT there to be a close-enough-to-DotA map. I think it's great that alternate maps exist but a) I don't think worship at the altar blah blah actually happens and (b) if it does it's only maybe half the devs' fault.

Oh, it's an excellent starting point. You can't go wrong serving up DotA or DotA-like to the DotA loving crowds. The original map is in fact a rather well-polished, balanced and good map. All the qualities of a classic and the original and all that. I'm just glad Riot has gone a bit further and given an equally strong game mode.

The big problem as I heard it is that if you have 10 maps, only 2 will be popular. But if we have 2 maps, and one of them is Twisted Fucking Treeline.. well, one or two more would be a God Send. And 'lo, Dominion was good. Disguising it as -EM was just a beautiful twist to guarantee it develops a thriving following.

Hell, I was holding my breath that Magma Chamber all along would be some sort of 6v6 map that was larger than SR. Just completely ridiculous.

Smiler: Olaf's got Revive too. I wonder how long until we see 5 revive teams? +400 HP and 500+ Movement speed 1-2 times a match? Do that across five characters and you'd never lose your closest two points. Revive will become the Dominion meta sooner or later, mark my words.

Hggggnnnnnnnnn Cass is so much fun! I figured she would be but damn! Why I gotta have expensive tastes like that? She clearly takes skill to use but it ain't like Orianna's "gah i'm so useless i can't keep track of that fucking ball half the time".

Welp, gives me something else to look forward to once I'm done with runes.
