Lifetime Membership, sticking it to suckers... for life. Well, OK, really just for significantly more money than default retail, but what a joke.

um i have played LOL like four times? i always played with Mocto, i think i am rank like 3, i have no itams or points or unlocked champions. Mocto didn't play it much because he said HON is way better but since i am bad at MOBAs i don't like it so much! (also i can't afford it right now!)

Well, I like LoL better than HoN but it's probably because I only have 2 games played on HoN(Both wins....) and I have over 750 with almost 400 wins on LoL. Many champions and full pages of runes and other stuffs. That stated, if you wanted to start playing Norondor, I would be glad to play with you!

but noro lol is free and is for babbies and also has cool people like envy playing

and the free champions are always great (for trolling the fuck out of your team in ranked games once you hit level 30)

You can always play LoL with username: doomykins but fair warning, I'll literally kill you if you're bad for a single round.

■Lifetime VIP Membership

Wait. What was the last time a game offered day one lifetime VIP programs for a big stack of money and then that game went on to be very successful (or even extant in five years)? Isn't this a Huge Warning Sign?

I know there's a guy who drives a bus for the city that bought the lifetime subscription to Hellgate: London. Poor bastard.

Yes

OTHER GAMES THAT HAVE OFFERED DAY ONE LIFETIME SUBSCRIPTIONS: LOTRO, Champions, STO, Hellgate: London

Of these only LOTRO didn't completely and instantly fail, but it's still F2P now so ha ha, eat it

(APB didn't but honestly it's shocking to me too)

APB is one of few games that might actually have not failed had they provided day one lifetime subs.

lots of things could have saved APB, so it's a very instructive case in that respect (as well as others).

Does STO stand for Star Trek Online, and doesn't that still exist?

According to Turbine, LOTRO was apparently profitable (and the last subscription numbers they posted prior to that showed it making substantially more money than most of WoW's competitors) but they switched it to a F2P model since DDO did so well, and managed to double their income from the game because of it. I expect F2P/Freemium games to be more popular now in the states, now that they've been shown to be a viable business model.

Oh yeah, not saying that at all. F2P/Cash Shop models are perfectly ok. All i was saying is that the lifetime subscription thing turned out to be another total waste of time/money as usual!

Does STO stand for Star Trek Online, and doesn't that still exist?

yes and yes

Wait people play that?

it's by Cryptic, so no

Cryptic -- by Jack Emmert's own admission! -- does not make good games. Expect to see lifetime subscription offers and loyalty rewards for playtime in every title they put out.
