I actually almost did pick Morgana over Lux for my second unlock; had she been in the free rotation the week I started playing I probably would have taken her instead. I really had a lot of fun with Lux though, and I like her design on top of that.

I'm saving up for Nocturne right now though. I wanted a melee dude to round out my roster (Alistar for tanking, Lux for AP, Tristana for ranged AD, Sona for support, and Nocturne for melee AD/ganker/jungler) to make sure I could fill a hole in pretty much any team, and after reading about what he could do I figured he'd be the most interesting. Then he got his free week and it confirmed my assumptions about him. Only 1300 IP to go!

I kinda liked Lee Sin too for that role, but he's not any cheaper.

Next picks would probably be Morgana, Cassiopeia, Jarvan IV or Orianna, but I might start saving up for tier 3 runes instead. Not sure yet.

Morganna is harder to play in general. Puddle is harder to use than Lux's AoE, ult requires melee contact as a mage, Skill-Shot is slightly harder to land. Still pretty great support caster.

If you are interested in playing the game past level 20, fill your empty runes with Tier 1s, then save for Tier 3s after you get Nocturne.

Tier 3s aren't so significant you literally can't play if you don't have them, but they're still a really huge comfort zone and they're so expensive you want 1-2 default pages that serve almost any hero.

HP Quints, Armor Pen Reds/Magic Pen Reds, MP-5/Dodge/Armor Yellows, Magic Resist/Cooldown Reduction Blues. Pick 1-2 from each color and you can cover almost every hero.

You could also do what I'm doing ATM. HP Quints, MR Reds, MR Blues, Armor Yellows. Fits literally every hero and favors the current defensive meta.

But yeah long story short Tier 3s are expensive as fuck. If you get bored force yourself to pick up every 450 hero and learn them a bit.

Survivability runes? Are you some sort of baby nerd? Glass cannons for lyfe.

(Most of my runes are from last year and I am too busy feeding my character addiction.)

The funny part is that all I do these days is play force multiplier characters and tag along with the other glass cannons and throw myself into risky situations, successfully off-tank them while doing my multiplier, and then get away alive with an assist or a kill.

On that note, Riven is way too fun to play. We're chasing somebody? kya kya kya kya kya stun chase chase chase youmu's chase kya kya stun 3/1/12.

Sometimes I try out 21/x/x or x/x/21 and aggressive runes again but I just get killed hard by casters who now do an extra 15% damage to me that I'm not blocking with raw MR runes.

I stopped playing with about 5700 IP yesterday, thinking I still had about three or four days to go to get to 6300. I just logged in now, and I have 6313.

Just played my first game of Dominion.

That took about 20 minutes. I never built AP on Sona before, but before long it felt like it was the right thing to do; you're basically running from teamfight to teamfight and the idea of long-term in-lane sustainable harassment goes right out the window. I still got Shurelya's though, that active is a godsend. In the same way, the speed aura changed from "put one point in at level 7 maybe" to "FORGET DAMAGE WE NEED TO GET FROM A TO B RIGHT THE FUCK AWAY". All in all I felt even more support-y than usual, and I'm glad to see that the score reflected my efforts.

iirc mostly people build CDR on sona to make use of her passive for harassment. i forget how her abilities scale with AP? i know on janna people will go AP hard because her shield has 90% AP efficiency...!

I usually go CDR and mana regen on Summoner's Rift (Ionian Boots, Shurelia's Reverie, Soul Shroud), but I literally never ran into a harassment situation on Crystal Scar; there's just no time to plink away at people, or to stay back and heal. Hell, there's barely time to kill creeps. In fact, most of the time I didn't bother with the pure damage Power Chord, going for the slow one seemed more useful. Preventing your opponents from being where they need to be is kind of a big deal, and whereas some heroes shrug off my damage output, the slow always does its job. As for the ratios, they look alright; valor is .7, heal is .25, and her ult is .8. For damage, these numbers are actually better than, say, Lux's, whose ult is .75 (but of course Funkeln's level 1 base damage is twice Crescendo's and shoots hella far and triggers+renews her passive).

I think the first big aspect of interest is that there's no laning phase, it just jumps straight into mid-late game. Now don't get me wrong, I like a good tense laning phase, but there's something to be said for throwing both teams at each other within the first minute and seeing how it goes from there. It gets so intense, at one point I was like, "oh hey I'm sitting on three thousand gold and two skill points", but you're just so busy accomplishing direct gameplay stuff that everything that's not straight-up next-15-seconds tactical concerns kinda takes a back seat. I don't think I ever ported back to base to shop.

It's worth noting that porting only takes about four seconds now, which can make skin-of-your-teeth escapes an option when people are trying to corner you

My big problem with Dominion is that if you have a bad player on your team you have already lost. No carrying allowed.

AP Sona scales well but on Summoner's Rift it takes half the game to prep it.

Since Dominion is twice as fast, much more reasonable.

Also Dominion owns.

"Does your champion have a difficult laning phase or need a lot of farm to get off the ground? Well Dominion might be for you!"

This is its primary problem but it's still in beta so whatever.

Also Rammus but that's just too hilarious to complain about.

suspect i will like Janna even more due to movespeed coolness and such, but

i kind of... can't find it in my heart to tolerate that game's playerbase...
