I'm interested in it too, not so much because of the game aspects, which don't seem particularly engaging at the moment (though I'm ready to be pleasantly surprised), but because of the atmosphere and humor aspects. I have a good feeling for this 1920s New Arcadia thing.

I like that apparantly, every single object in the game has its own unique little blurb.  Like if there are four identical crabs, each crab has its own little thing.  Tycho was bemoaning having ever decided to do this on their bandwidth testing podcast thing.

I would like to try an adequate pastry from Mediocre Pies.

Has anybody downloaded Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness yet? Any thoughts? Oh, and how much space does it suck up on the 360 hard drive?

Downloading it right now! 1 minute left.

Damn these are some hot servers, seriously. I'm getting 1mb/sec! The Penny-Arcade game, on launch day! Props from being prepared, greenhouse.

Got the demo (for Linux!  I won't even have to reboot to Windows!); will give it a look later.

I mean, that is an achievement and all, but it's not like they have any other content at all competing for bandwidth.

I'm assuming that the PC version supports gamepads.

I'd be surprised; it's all point and click to me, I haven't seen gamepad options.

In other news I'm missing most of the sound and progress has been halted until tech support comes up with something.

Played through the demo.  Will buy it when I have some scratch.

The good:
  • Good graphics
  • World brimming with personality
  • Funny (if you think PA is funny, which I do)
  • Cool character creation engine
  • Solid battle engine
  • Mac and Linux users get some love

The bad:
  • Character creation engine seems pretty limited in terms of colors; I couldn't even make a blond guy (was trying to make Frivolous Suit)
  • Took an inordinate amount of load time after I created my character
  • I can't alt-tab out of the damn thing (presumably a Linux-only problem, and possibly KDE-only or even Kubuntu-only)
  • Point-and-click combat is slower than it would be with keyboard or gamepad, and while I'm moving my mouse around I'm distracted from looking up and doing things like block.  (ARE there keyboard shortcuts?  I don't see any.)
  • No Wii version (assuming this is due to Nintendo returning to the "let's turn the blood into sweat" mentality that did them so much good in the 1990's and getting squeamish about enemies named Fruit Fucker, but wouldn't be surprised if it showed up on WiiWare at some later date either)

All in all, I think it came out really well, and I'd like to see more games like it.  (Strong Bad Cool Game for Attractive People, I'm looking in your direction.)

There's no PSN version either, with the reason listed being that the PSN doesn't support Torque.  Could be the same deal with a Wii version.

Wait, Torque? I was just reading about how there was a Torque game being released as Wiiware sometime in the future.

Well shit, I can't believe that I missed an obscure reference to an hours old game that I haven't even played yet. I'll have to try harder next time.

Why the hell does my brain keep telling me my guy looks like a young, cartoon Michael Caine? Anyone one else sees it? Because I don't. But still!

Stupid brain.
