Harle too, I think. She was also a dragon, though.

Well, Marle was related to Schala and she had blonde hair. Maybe that family has this weird genetic disease where the hair of females only turns blue after they become an incredibly boring supporting NPC character who never does anything interesting and yet is constantly talked about anyway.

I swear, Schala is like an even worse Bobo Fett because she doesn't even LOOK cool.

Wait Marle was related to Schala? Didn't Schala get vaporized back in 10,000 B.C., with her only offspring being flung into medieval times?

Who is responsible for this outrageous continuity error in the otherwise fucking airtight Chrono Chrontinuum?! >:0

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of Schala either, or Zeal itself, really. I mean, sure it looked really cool and all and it brought the game together in a neat way, but nearly everyone that lived there was a dickbag and their philosophy was built on glorified naval-gazing and the one person who could've prevented the fall (Schala) didn't because she was too much of a coward to stand up to her own mother. It's a cool place, but it really deserved the ending it got, I think.
(also someone really needs to split-merge this discussion into one of the Chrono threads.)

A bullshittery aside I think having a Chrono lore thread would very much be the next 21st Century Firing Pin Discussion Center. I mean let's not entertain that Chrono Cross was at all thought-out, which is really part of its charm at this point.

I mostly push the matter on account of having finished my first Trigger playthrough since I was 16 a couple days ago and actually understanding what all that lost-in-time flying castle business was all about! Once you understand that everyone is secretly a dragon it falls square into place!!

Whereas Marle is, of course, a PC.

I forget, how many of the playable characters were integral to the plot of Chrono Cross? Six, maybe seven?

Well, Lucca raised Kid. And died.

And Robo was part of Chronopolis' super trans-dimensional future-computer. And died.

Frog probably had something to do with the Masamune. He's long dead.

Ayla was apparently that cave girl's daughter or something. So there's that bit of insanity.

Magus was referenced. He... might actually still be alive.

Crono married Marle, and ruled Guardia. Until Porre invaded and, maybe possibly, killed both of them.

I think that about covers it.

I keep clicking on this thread expecting some hot, Batman-related discussion and all I get is Chrono Cross.

Depends on what you mean by "integral" to the plot.

If you mean the story revolves around them, then Serge, Kid, Harle, and Lynx.

However, a lot of characters come into the storyline in some way, including Fargo, Korcha, Sheena, Norris, whoever you pick to go into Viper Manor, Viper and his Devas, Radiant, etc. Hell, even Starky, the cute lil' mascot character, performs a vital role later on in the game.

Also, I found out some more stuff about the Guile/Magus connection (He's not, by the way, before you ask.)

Apparently, they only scrapped Guile being Magus very late into development, after the character design was almost finalized. Which is why he flies when he runs, looks similar, is black innate, has a weird backwards element grid, etc.

I still really like Chrono Cross. Sure, toward the end the whole thing is such a knot that the original cast has to explain the whole thing, but they pulled a few things off rather nicely, such as Harle's tragic life/death. As for everyone from the first game being dead/missing/fucked up somehow. Chrono Cross is all about dimension swapping and setting things right. Obviously both worlds are worlds gone wrong, and your goal is to reunite them and set them right.

Why this involves using a specific elemental pattern against the last boss to activate the Save All Worlds scenario is, however, a mystery best left to the guide publishers.

Look, Batman is all about solving mysteries, and Chrono Cross is nothing else if not mysterious. Or half-baked. Same difference, most of the time.

I can't think of a better thread for this so uh?

Remember Crimson Echoes? That supposed 98% complete romhack sequel to Chrono Trigger that Squenix shut down a couple of years ago? Apparently, a few of the members of it's dev team went rogue, finished the game, polished it up and released it on a few private tracker sites. (You can get it on Blackcat, I don't know where else, because that's where the wife got it.)

Apparently it's surprisingly good, but they did some really dumb things like re-doing the character portraits, changing Frog's accent (also frog is a human now for some reason) and making Crono talk. I'm not playing it, but the wife's digging it pretty hard. So uh if you guys are bored, it's worth a look.

also this shit isn't running on a real SNES, apparently 400mb of music files.
